It is a cute little thing, but I can't find a use for it, and the "manual" isn't a help.

That is a driver monitor that will be used for the hands free driving option coming later in the year

Contains two cameras and two IR lights.
When the hands free system is released......the lights shine onto your eyeballs and light up the blood vessels/capillaries etc while the camera monitors your eye position. Apparently it can determine where you are looking. If looking ahead then the system is happy. If not, it complains.

Apparently it works with sunglasses as well.

It will be interesting when that system is released later this year hopefully....
There will be a fee for that added feature.

Yes, its a little creepy knowing those cameras are looking at you all the time, but I suppose its the price we pay for being safe.

I am hoping the light spectrum is safe. My family has a history of vision issues as we get older so I hope it's a non-issue for me.

IR should not be an issue particularly at the rather low levels emitted on these things.

I wonder what would happen if you covered them up with tape and didn't use lane keep assist / adaptive cruise control.?
