When should I see pony projections?

Under what conditions does the pony projection show up? I’ve only seen mine twice, both when I really tried to make them show up by using the fob to lock the car then unlock the car. I usually let the car self-lock and I don’t recall seeing the puddle lights when approaching the car with the fob after letting it auto-lock. So what’s up?

I always get the puddle lights when I have Ford Pass app open on my phone. PAAK is set up, and Bluetooth is connected. Every time I pass by at night to take the garbage out with my phone in my pocket, it illuminates my way.

The lighting conditions have to be favorable and the sideview mirrors have to extended to project the image.

Unless they've changed them in later builds, the ponies are only projected when the mirrors are folded in.

It works best when fobs and PaaK phones have been away from the car for a while since locking, and it is dark of course.

Doors locked, mirrors folded, welcome lighting setting turned on, approaching car with a fob or PAAK from a distance.

And the the car needs to be awake! Mine work as long as the car does not enter sleep mode.
