Why Some People Get Their Car Sooner - Priority!

I was just talking to my dealer about my order. We talked about how Priority works and it confirmed my suspicions. Apparently, if you order on line, it will default to Priority 19. He said that he can change it to anywhere between 10 and 19 with 10 being the highest priority. He says he doesn't change it because it isn't fair to others, but agreed that some dealers may improve priority for their customers. He thought the difference between 10 and 19 was just only a couple of weeks, but in light of what we are seeing with people ordering in July and already getting their cars - we know better! Under normal circumstances maybe it is a couple of weeks difference, but during this supply shortage it may be huge! Oh yeah, and Reservations? He didn't think that prior reservation counted for much in the current order process.

I'm a priority 19 and still waiting. At least it is on the train coming home to papa!

He can change it between a 10 and 19 because all of those numbers relate to the priority of orders within the dealership. If the dealer has someone at 10 and someone at 19, the person at 10 will get theirs first. That doesn’t account for the fact that other people at other dealerships will get theirs sooner.

For example, my order priority is 19. I placed my order in September of this year, and I got a November build date. There are plenty of people in the grumpy thread who placed their orders months (or years) before I did who will get their cars around the same time.

The only priority number that actually matters is a 1 or a 2, it seems. Other than those, we are at the mercy of allocations and other unfathomable delays.
