Hello everybody from Spain.
First of all, I apologize about my English.
I would like to share my experience with the front right side window of my RWD EXT Mustang Mach-e.
THE FACTS
The car is one year old. Build date: May 2021.
Two weeks ago, during my community trip, I rolled down the front right side window and listened a small ācrackā coming from the glass. When I looked at it, I saw a 1,5 cm chip on the top edge. There were no other damages. The weather was nice and warm with no high temperature changes.
I took the car to my local dealer. They never have seen something like that but checking the software, they saw a āfront window positioning sensor alarmā (but they didnĀ“t know which one of the two front windows was). After checking the rubber seal they didnĀ“t see any stone or welding problem.
So I called my insurance company and they accepted replace the glass without cost.
THE QUESTIONS
Has anybody ever had a problem like this?
Any thoughts about what happened?
THE POSSIBILITIES
In order of probability (in my opinion):
1.- A tiny stone or dust could break the glass but my car is always shiny and clean. Bad luck!
2.- Maybe the frame and the glass are not perfectly aligned. So, when the window is closed, it“s under a high pressure. After a few months, the glass breaks due to fatigue failure. In this case (fatigue failure), the breaking strength is about 400 kg/cm2 which is so high.
3.- The day before I washed my car by hand. I only use water without any kind of soap or chemical product. The next day, I rolled down the glass and saw that the lower rubber of the window was wet because the glass was full of water. At few hours later, after roll down the glass again, I heard the ācrackā.
Could be the upper frame rubber glued to the glass? Where I live, the water is very hard (carbonate hardness) what can increase the effect, but the typical breaking strength of glass is about 1000 kg/cm2 which is too high. Don“t forget that glass usually breaks due to traction, not compression. I“m not an expert but if you look at the picture, I“d say that the chip begins from outside to inside. It“s also strange the symmetry of the chip.
Compared with another vehicles I“ve driven, the windows seem too tighten in order to reduce the external noise.
4.- The glass had a manufacturing defect. During a year or ownership I didn“t see any scratch or chip but could have had a microscopic fracture.
5.- Other possibilities?
I“m worried about I have the same issue in a few months.
Thanks in advance and congratulations for this wonderful forum.
