@Ford Motor Company has been MIA, so no explanation has been forthcoming.

Hi everyone.

Sorry for being late to the party on this one. I was tracking this down so I can explain what's going on with that error message.

Essentially, the system is flagging that the security certificate for your Phone-as-a-Key needs a refresh. It happens to keep things secure, but I get that it’s a hassle to deal with.

The fix is pretty simple, though. You just need to get in the car with your physical key fob and start it up. That tells the vehicle it’s really you. Once it’s running, follow the prompts in the Ford app to delete the expiring Phone-as-a-Key profile.

After that’s gone, you can set up a new key right in the app. That should clear it up.

Thanks for that information, it’s much appreciated. As long as we’re not “transitioning” to facial recognition to start our cars, we’re probably doing well. If that comment confuses you, @Ford Motor Company , go take a peek at virtually any random on the Lucid subreddit, and you’ll understand. ;)

Agreed. I had one hiccup: a try again later message. So I tried again later. And it worked fine.

Glitch in the matrix. Or a server issue. I’d go with the former. ;)

I have two Mach-Es. One did the PAAK update fine (two tries, but it eventually worked). The other one just will just not work. I take only one fob, move the car to a wide open space, follow the instructions in the iPhone app, it gets the new cert and I press the button to copy the pairing code. Then after trying to connect to the vehicle for several seconds it give me an error message:

Trouble connecting
There was a problem connecting to your vehicle. Make sure you're in an open area and try again.
Error Code: 97

I've tried at least nine times over three days. Any suggestions?

My PAAK just expired for a second time in about 2 months, seems to have occurred about a week after updating to IOS 26.4. What the hell is Ford doing? My wife is the primary driver of our MME and does not use PAAK, I am likely to just carry my fob from now on since I rarely drive it anyway.

Follow up... it worked for me after deleting paired devices and a full restart of the iPhone.

Don't think I've seen a post on this? Trouble free process I hope?

Is this because you aren’t driving enough? Like a security thing?

Oh no! Don’t tell me that Brian (Not AI) isn’t with us any more!
He’s still here, though not in Ai form of course. That comment was written some time ago when Ford was busy rebooting the EV program, I think.

I always figured the AI would get to him eventually and take him out.
Resistance is futile?

Probably a security issue but not use related. Perhaps length of time since the last PAAK “key” was issued? Quite a few people received the message. I don’t recall having received one, but I’m also known to quickly exit messages without looking at them.

It told me my PAAK was no good anymore and required setting up again awhile ago.

Ran through the process said successful but no key detected after. Delete all phones as a key off the phones apps, reset in car, run through the setup and it says successful but no key detected with phone. Did power down, let it lock and sit for a while and then rebooted between steps but still no go. Says in car and on phone it is a key but it does not recognize it or work. Worked for 5+ years now it does not.

Iphone11 here; could that be the problem the phone is no longer supported with new paak? Do you need a passcode on the phone for it to work? I remember being instructed I need a passcode on the phone 5 years ago to get PAAK to work. I set up a passcode and then removed the code after paak was installed and working . This time no mention of a phone passcode (no passcode here). Server is really slow and not the greatest up here. Was nice but have a fob.
