This article shows how you to get Android Auto to run YouTube (in a browser). Here is a video of it running in my MME. The best part is it took very little effort and no other 3rd party apps are needed to be installed on my phone. I was using the cell network in the car so performance wasn't great, you should try when connected to wi-fi if possible. Once you do enjoy the Rick-Roll ?.
The issues I noticed was the browser interface was overlapping with the Android Auto interface instead of being framed within the app window. As a result I couldn't use any of the options at the top of the page (menu and search). I could skip to another video that was automatically selected for me but that was it. I'll play with it more to see if I can figure out a way to get to the menu and search buttons.
