Hope some of these reach Ford's engineers, I want them to hear the good and not-so-good and improve this amazing vehicle.
Overall, let me say I am extremely satisfied with the MME. I ordered my Premium Extended Range AWD in May 2021 and received delivery in early 2022 (guess that makes it a "Job 2"). Every single person I have shown it to has been absolutely floored by it and two of my close friends actually put down deposits as a result (one of them actually cancelled their Model Y order to buy it). It's a real head turner and the buzz is real. Ford did a great job and I'd give it 9.9/10
A little about me, I grew up in the same city where they build the ICE Mustangs but never could see myself owning one of those. When they announced the MME that changed a lot and I had to give it a look. After the first round of crash test data came back in April/May I test drove one and put a deposit down. I'm not terribly brand loyal to any automaker but my last vehicle was a new Ford Escape and it drove well and I put 150k+ miles on it without too many issues. The fact it performed so well definitely kept me looking at Ford first for my next vehicle. They also did a good job mitigating a toxic chemical spill in my hometown from their factory and took full ownership of that - which also improved my image of the company.
Positives (no particular order)
1) The car is really well built from a quality standpoint. I haven't had the same creaks, groans, and gap issues that my acquaintances have had with their Teslas. "Ford knows how to bend metal" has proven to be true. The interior surfaces, steering wheel material, stitching looks and feels premium - that's important to me. I trusted that if Ford was going to use the Mustang badge on this they were going to knock it out and that has been the case.
2) As I mentioned above, people love to come up and ask questions about the MME. I've never owned a vehicle where that was the case but there's a palpable buzz in the air. I ordered take out one evening and the high school-aged waitress who brought out the food mentioned she used her life savings to buy a used ICE Mustang when she turned 16 and said owning a MME was her ultimate goal. She knew literally everything about the car and had never set foot in one before!
3) The soundproofing is EXCELLENT on the car. I mostly drive it in whisper mode (I personally can't stand aggressive regen braking and neither can my GSD or kids) and have literally zero complaints about it. The door insulation is as thick as a pool 'noodle' and my kids have no trouble falling asleep inside
4) Others seem to disagree, but I love the ride (and the heavy feel) and particularly the acceleration. I came from an SUV and I suspect some of the ICE Mustang owners aren't used to the weight. My favorite trick when giving people rides is to ask them to read the "button" (the BO logo on the passenger side dash) to get them to lean forward just before I floor it for the first time - literally throwing them back into their seat. 10/10 this always works and makes people laugh and love the MME.
5) My car came with 2 key fobs and no frunk divider, despite being a 2021. It's obvious Ford was paying attention to feedback and this was a solid redirect
6) The infotainment system is great. The volume knob is nice for parents of children and the screens and menus feel well put together. I'd only like to see the range on the Ford map updated in real(ish) time and maybe the connection with Carplay to be a little quicker. I wish apps like plugshare were able to be used on the infotainment system, but despite it being on my phone this doesn't seem like a configurable option
7) I actually like the button doors, I could take-it-or-leave-it with the door flange on the drivers and passengers side.
8) The seat warmers are aggressive, and I love it. The steering wheel heater could be a little warmer.
9) Rain sensing wipers work great, this is my first car with those
10) Charging estimates seem to be right on par with what I'm getting in real world driving - this was a huge relief that they got this right
11) I like the wireless charging map, perhaps it could be angled up slightly though? This would free up more space for the purse/tissue box holder under it and you would still have plenty of room under the center screen.
Negatives (in no particular order)
1) The BlueCruise needs a bit of tuning. The car aggressively rides the right lane line and it feels like the DRIVER is centered in the lane instead of slightly left-center justified. I'd like the option to tweak the lane justification settings because it feels like I'm going to bump large trucks/semis on my right side ALL the time. Additionally I'd like to see BlueCruise expanded to rural divided highways too. I don't think it's any different than federal interstate highways and don't understand why it's not a "blue zone."
2) The charging door feels flimsy and takes multiple times to close properly without denting the metal. I may suggest making this thicker on the next few model years.
3) You shouldn't be able to fold the mirrors while the car is in motion. I almost had a collision when I first got the vehicle while trying to adjust the mirrors on the road and hit the wrong button at the same time a lane was merging. This seems like a simple software patch.
4) I actually don't care for the knob shifter. I'd like there to be some sort of feedback when you reach one end or another. I've accidently put it into park on accident while reversing a few different times which is sort of embarrassing. A really good work around would be to decrease the lag-time on the grey box (on the above wheel screen) that moves behind the letters (P N D, etc...) so you know what gear you're in much easier. Overall the laggy indicator and infinite knob are misses for me, but could be a win with some tweaks
5) The windshield feels super thin. I've taken some pretty decent sized freeway rocks in my other vehicles with only 1 minor crack (over the course of a few decades), but with the MME i've already had to have 3 rock crack repairs and am considering having to get a whole new windshield. Did they shrink the width to decrease weight? It feels much thinner to me.
6) Why isn't there some way to unlock the the frunk from outside the vehicle? The frunk is awesome but if I'm carrying food I don't want to have to set it down to open the frunk on the screen or with the lever. This could definitely be changed with an update. Also the frunk door takes a decent amount of effort to close - almost like I have to slam it each time.
7) As I mentioned in a previous thread. Drinks get stuck in the backseat fold down drink holders. https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/discovered-a-hilarious-design-flaw-the-other-day.14323/
Overall I am absolutely in love with the MME, I'd love to see it be amazing for other people as well and hope this finds it way to the right ears. I know we may actually be considering getting a second one for the misses.
