Hi everyone!

My name is James, and I work in marketing at Ford. I wanted to share this 3D Printer file with Mustang Mach-E drivers that I’ve been working on in my personal time for the last few months (with engineering help from my Dad).

Some of you may already know, but for those of you that don’t, the Ford Integrated Tether System (FITS) was added to the Mustang Mach-E frunk on 23MY’s built after late March, and on all 24MY’s. FITS was originally designed for the Ford Maverick, so it’s great seeing it utilized across other Ford vehicles. You can check to see if you have FITS slots by finding these inside your frunk.

When Ford announced the Fast Charging Adapter the question of where the best place to store it would be popped up. I put two and two together and came up with the idea to 3D print a holder for the adapter. Using the Ford-approved adapter as my base, I tested out various angles and orientations, but settled on this design as I found that it offered the best access and didn’t protrude too much into the frunk. I also did a fair bit of field testing, including a 1,600 mile road trip up the west coast and it worked great.

For those of you interested in printing your own, I’m making the CAD available on Thingiverse: you can find instructions and download my designs here.

Can’t wait to see what else y’all can come up with that utilizes the FITS slots! If you use my file, I’d love to see photos!

P.S. This design is intended for 2023 and 2024 model year Mustang Mach-E’s, 25MY will require a different version due to the redesigned frunk.

Update: I have uploaded versions for use with the Ford branded Fast Charging Adapter co-developed by Lectron for both the 23-24MY and 25MY vehicles for those interested.

Nice idea!

Can you provide a picture with the adapter in the holder.

Looks good!

Is there a place to get the original files for the FITS stuff? Or is it easier to just slice this one if I want the cleat on its own?

I just chucked it below the mat in my rear trunk. Fits well and doesn't rattle ?‍♂

But this does seem interesting. The pic shared shows it popping out a bit. Doesn't it interfere with the frunk closing?

Nice!! Has anyone tested it with the A2Z Typhoon? (I think it's a little longer than the Tesla-made one)

The frunk lid is concave over that part of the frunk. There should be no interference. ??

Just don’t print this in PLA.

Personally I put mine under the armrest storage compartment so I just grab it and charge, but good design.

Cool. Can you share the CAD file (.step) or dimensions of FITS interface? I've 3D printed a few things for the interior. But it usually involves a few iterations trying to measure accurately.

I do this as well but did have luggage in the back and needed to get the adapter out. Was kind of a pain to unload enough luggage to get the trunk floor lifted enough to get the adapter out. Something like this means I wouldn’t forget to pull the adapter out prior to heading out. Nice work OP.

Steve is correct, there is no interference with the hood when using this adapter due to the negative space available on the underside. However, if you decide to use a different adapter then you should test fit it before slamming the hood closed to be sure ?

I have not, it has only been tested with the complimentary adapter from Ford that is shown. If you want to be the first to test it with the A2Z Typhoon, let me know if it fits!

So we actually used the FITS files that were released by the Maverick Team a few years ago. However, only the female side was released, so we had to reverse engineer the male side from that. It might be easier to slice mine but there is a link to that CAD from Maverick on this site:

https://media.ford.com/content/dam/...uct/2022/maverick/fits/Ford-Maverick-FITS.pdf

I should also note that the male side that Ford uses for the official FITS accessories for Mavericak is different in that it its designed to break apart under a specific amount of force (to not damage the vehicle). We decided not to use this design in part because i wasnt able to track down the actual CAD for it and in recreating it didnt feel that it would be strong enough to hold the couple pound adapter with the material we were printing with...
