Sorry for the long post. Just feels like my full MME story is finally complete and wanted to share.
Unlike a lot of you on here, I was late to the MME game. 2019 wasn't a great year for me, so I wasn't looking at any vehicle purchases at the time. But 2020 was better, despite covid, and I started looking into EV's again. I had been wanting an EV for a while, but the only cars that had everything I wanted was a Tesla, and I never cared for the looks. I think Tesla has done amazing things for the EV industry, but don't agree with everything they do, or their styling. Then I came across the MME, and I was instantly sold after seeing all the specs at the time.
I decided to make a reservation for a GT mostly based on the looks of the front end. I really prefer the look of the dark grille insert over the body colored grille area. So I made my reservation and went about life. Then in January my brother bought a chevy bolt, and I was shocked how fun that car was to drive. That REALLY got me to wanting one. Around that same time the dealers around here were starting to get in their demo units and I got to test drive one. I was very happy with it and was super excited to get mine. However, at that time, GT orders weren't available yet, and the options and pricing wasn't even final yet. A month later a First Edition in Grabber Blue was listed here on the forum. I just happened to notice that it was in Kansas, about 3 hours from my house. I ended up buying it and absolutely loved the car. I've posted recaps of my road trips with it on here if you want to see more of that.
Around March I went to the dealer I had my GT reservation at, and asked them if they wanted me to keep the order going because I had already gotten one. They of course were happy to do that to get one to sell as stock. I told them I just wanted a chance to drive it before they sold it, but casually said unless the used car market is still crazy and I decide I want to trade. In April, I placed the order and transferred my deposit to the dealer. I ordered it exactly how I wanted it, just in case and they were fine with that config. And since then I've been watching it's progress on here getting more and more excited for it even though I didn't plan on buying it. It was just fun to track its progress. Then my build week came, and then a chip hold for a month. Then it shipped and I really got excited. And started seeing posts on here about people getting high trade values on the MME, and I got even more excited, and basically had talked myself into buying it when it showed up.
Friday (10/22/21) I checked Palsapp and to my surprise it was marked as delivered to the dealer that morning. A few days before I had gotten some offers from Carvana and Vroom and both had offered me $52,000 on my FE with 10,500 miles. Friday I also went to Carmax and got an offer of $53,000. The MSRP of my FE was $59,400. I had already worked some numbers at home and $53k was the point I said I'd pull the trigger if I could get it.
This is where things almost went bad. I stopped in the dealership because my salesman wasn't answering or returning my calls. Turns out he was on vacation until next week. But I asked if my GT was delivered and if I could see it. and the manager immediately said "You still don't want it right?" I said, well actually I think I'm going to take it. And you could tell he wasn't happy to hear that. Turns out they found someone to buy it from out of state almost immediately after I showed up to say I probably wouldn't take it. Thankfully, we had never actually finalized that I wasn't taking delivery, or given my deposit back. The manager then went and looked at my FE, and went to run some numbers. He came back and tried to offer me 46K for my FE. I told him that's fine, I have an offer of $53k at carmax, I'll just go sell it there and come back over here. I then just asked him for the x-plan price so I could run my own numbers. He left and came back like 10 minutes later and offered to match the $53k on my FE. So I agreed, and they would have it ready for delivery Saturday afternoon. He also apologized to me for being rude when I had first gotten there. And I'm sure I ruined a pretty good profit for them on whatever ADM they planned on marking on it.
I showed back up Saturday at 4:10pm to pick it up. I showed up, the manager got a few forms for me to fill out for credit and agreeing on the x-plan price. And I was back to finance within 10 minutes of showing up. The finance manager I delt with was very friendly and never tried to sell me anything. I told him I wanted to try Ford options or at least see the numbers on it, especially for the $1000 rebate. And he wasn't aware of any rebates, so he went and checked and came back and said "well you were right, there's a rebate on it!" This was his 2nd Ford options contract so it took him probably an extra 20 minutes trying to get the contract filled out correctly but in the end it all worked out. After I signed on the iPad like 14 times, they gave me a thumb drive with a copy of the paperwork and they sent me back to the sales floor. We put the paper tag on, and they basically just handed me the keys and let me go, knowing I already had one and didn't need to explain anything.
I have to say the profile setup in the fordpass app has come a long way since February when I setup my FE. I shared in the 1.7.1 thread that you were able to add radio presets now. And when I got into the car at the dealer, and hit the power button, this is what showed up on the screen almost immediately:
It then still had me click next through all the setups, but they were already populated with my settings from the apps. And all radio presets came through as expected.
On my phone, without me doing anything, I got a popup to setup the car. It just had the Ford Logo and a setup button. I clicked setup and it connected Bluetooth to sync, and enabled android auto automatically.
I then drove it home. Literally my first time driving it was after I signed the papers and was on my way home. I have to say I didn't know what to expect on what it was going to feel like compared to the FE. But I have to admit, it is a very noticeable jump in power. I purposely didn't take it out of whisper on my way home. My brother was meeting me at my house and he wanted to check it out with me. I picked him up and went to some long back roads and flipped it to unbridled mode. This is where you REALLY notice the difference. That boost you get in the beginning is no joke. It is crazy how fast it takes off compared to the FE.
On the ride, I feel like the GT rides slightly stiffer than the FE did. it still has the bouncy ride that the FE had, but I feel like its not as bad. Like you go over a hump in the road and it only bounces once or twice instead of 3 or 4 times. I really feel like it a good spot for my driving comfort. And speaking of comfort, I feel like the GT seats are sooo much more comfortable than the FE seats. I can't quite put my finger on it, and it may just be the extra bolstering on them that helps but they just feel better to me. And they look great, as does the rest of the interior.
I haven't even had a chance yet to try out bluecruise. But I hope to do that soon.
One thing to note, it seems like activating the new car deleted the EA kWh balance I had. I still had 82kWh balance, and yesterday evening it was at 250kWh. Then today its at 500kWh. (I got an extra 250kwh for the chip shortage delay). Kind of annoying because if I knew they would be lost, I'd have used them sooner.
Anyway, Here's what you probably came for, A few pics!
