First, thanks to those who let me know how long it should take to get my Ford Power Promise email. It was indeed a dealer error.

So I got the email today and was surprised to see that instead of the $1300 Ford Pro charger i was expecting they are giving me a $400 Emporia charger. Is this what everyone is getting lately? I don't know a thing about chargers except that the Ford charger was supposed to work well with Ford products, and be high powered if your panel supports it. Should I be concerned that I'm not getting the high end Ford charger?

I saw a video made by Tim @fordvideoguy not long ago that said that the Emporia charger was now a possible option for the Ford Power Promise, so it is legit. It is a highly recommended and popular brand.

The Emporia chargers are generally well reviewed, and should meet your needs just fine! If you were planning on using a 100A circuit, instead of a 50A or 60A circuit, then it's another matter (but running a 100A circuit the 15 feet to your EVSE location would be potentially expensive because it requires heavier gauge wiring). You only want to use a maximum of 80% of the circuit rating for continuous draw, like for charging your car.

Most of the Emporia chargers can do up to 48A, which means you need a 60A circuit for that. (I think they make another, more expensive one that will do 80A on a 100A circuit). Most people either use a NEMA 14-50 plug or hardwire to a 50A circuit, and would set the EVSE to a max of 42A. That's generally plenty to charge your car overnight, because you will be getting around 30 miles of charge per hour...

I believe the Emporia chargers let you set the draw amperage as well, so you should be able to set it to 40A-42A if it's on a 50A circuit...

I would 100% take the emporia if they gave me a choice between the two.

The Ford CSP has been known to fault randomly and either charge slowly or not at all. Plus the CCS1 connector introduces compatibility issues if you ever need to charge a PHEV or a future car with NACS port. Currently only A2Z makes the proper adapter to be able to use the Ford CSP with a Tesla/NACS.

Mach-E charges at 48A max anyways. Any higher is basically pointless. Not many other EVs can charge at more than 48A either.

I bought my GT in mid-May, received my Ford CSP in late June, and finally got it installed by Qmerit in late July. I don't love the connector, but no issues with the charging performance so far.

Can anyone say how long it took for the charger to arrive to your home after placing the order from Qmerit?

Correct, I have an Emporia EVSE (2 actually, 1 at my house and 1 at my parent's house), and I have mine throttled back to 24A (30A circuit) since I only have a 100A panel. When you setup the EVSE in the Emporia app, it will prompt you to select the breaker/circuit size it is supplied with and then it will ask you to set a PIN number to protect the setting (You will have to enter the PIN number to change the charge rate in the future).

Edit: Oh, also the Emporia Pro supports 'Energy Management' where the system monitors the entire load on you house electrical system and can slow down or even stop charging if the load on the panel gets too high. It requires additional hardware though.

you order the charger from ford, not qmerit. It took a whole week to get mine (not counting the week I had to wait for it to come back in stock). Ordered it on friday, they shipped Monday and it arrived on Friday.

Not sure when you got yours. I finally got my email from Ford. It said i was getting an Emporia charger. It had a link to the Qmerit site so I could order it along with a discount code to apply at checkout to bring the price down to zero. The Qmerit site said the order was being fulfilled by Emporia. So, email from Ford, order from Qmerit, coming from Emporia.

Interesting. Maybe a regional thing? I got my email a few days ago. Not sure why you would get a Ford one, and I'm getting an Emporia. But thanks to others here I'm perfectly happy with the Emporia I will get getting.

Because “availability” as per the power promise FAQ. I tired to strong arm them into giving me the 80amp pro but they wouldn’t haha

Which model of Emporia EVSE have people been getting under the Ford Power Promise; the Pro or the Classic and was it the hardwired or NEMA 14-50 plug style?

Enjoy,
