Just signed up for trial . . . . not sure how it works.
It seems like they align your power company account with Ford's ability to control when your vehicle is charged. And when the power company is trying reduce usage, they are able to turn off the car's charging when it's located at your home. With that, you get rewarded.

In Colorado, Xcel Energy works with Ford Energy Rewards to schedule the off-peak charging through the vehicle. Xcel previously did this through the EVSE, but the failure of Enel/Juicebox, which Xcel offered rebates on prior to Enel's acquisition of Juicebox, highlighted the limitations of working through individual manufacturers. The new program works fine, scheduling based on local grid demand, but it always charges to my set level before the scheduled departure time. I get a text message confirming that my charge is scheduled, with the option to see the schedule or override it. It's definitely worth using this program so I don't have to pay attention to seasonal changes in time-of-use rates.

I replied to the email from the Clean Power Alliance telling them about the issues with their app reported in this thread. They didn't address those issues in their reply, and said this:

At the end of 2023, Ford changed its policy to prevent any and all 3rd party programs like ours from connecting to their vehicles. This means that, unfortunately, Fords are no longer compatible with our incentive program. All programs that wish to connect to Ford vehicles have to be authorized by Ford and we sadly have had no movement in rectifying this issue.

They didn’t tell you they take your FordPass login and access your data on Ford’s servers, which is a privacy breach. Other utilities have successfully worked with Ford to create a charging program, but it has to be done on Ford’s terms. They cannot use their preferred app vender, whose access methods do not comply with Ford’s privacy policy. You don’t want them logging into your account.

A lot of the utilities just want to use the off-the-shelf solution and not write their own custom auth interface that meets Ford’s requirements.

Ah, gotcha.....Interesting.....

Was that the only option in your area? 🤔

I'm in Boston, so Electric Distributor is Eversource, but I switched suppliers to Clearview's ClearCharge plan, they offer free charging overnights from 11pm-6am, up to 250kwh per month... (only caveat is they currently only support charge data sharing from either Chargepoint or Wallbox chargers, but that wasn't an issue for me since this is my first EV/EVSE, and I went with the Chargepoint HomeFlex 2...)

I have solar and could never confirm if I can switch suppliers and still get my 1:1 net metering. Generally my bill is low enough I don't worry about supply cost.
