I think this is spot on. Anyone in the market now should either wait for Gen 2 or buy used 2023.5 or 2024.

Save your money for a rainy day and the UEV platform.
Yes —I mention to people all the time to find a recent used one

There’s not going to be a gen 2 of this car.

Enjoyed your review. The only counterpoint I’d offer having just purchased a 2025 Mach E Premium in Oct 2025 is that it is still in my opinion an excellent EV choice now. The tech may not be the latest in the evolving EV marketplace but there is lots to be said for reliability and although I only am only closing in on 5 months of ownership and 9K miles, our Mach E to date has been flawless.. I also think far more advanced than many aging gas and hybrid car platforms on the market. Ford would be smart to keep it in the lineup until the UEV platform comes which will hopefully includes a Mach E II. Regarding depreciation, it does seem to be a steep drop for new purchasers like me based on what I see used one listed for, but we plan to keep ours 10 year or more so that balances out. Not sure if Ford has the 0%/72 month deals plus charger with install and additional cash incentives still ongoing but if they do I would say still a great choice.

I have a '21 job 1 CR1 that I bought used in '23 to test the EV waters. Best car I ever owned, and I have had no problems with it as I stayed current with updates, recalls, and replaced the 12 volt battery at 3 years. I will replace it with another Mach-e in a few years if . . . (1) Something comparable to Tesla's supervised full self driving is available, otherwise I will have to buy a Tesla due to advanced age causing difficulty driving (I'm currently 79). (2) The new Mach-e has a softer, quieter ride, as mine has a lot of road noise and a somewhat harsh ride. (3) Faster DC fast charging/800 volt architecture would be nice, as would greater range, but these two are not deal killers.

I would rephrase this a bit: there will be a gen 2 EV platform from Ford, and soon. If it delivers on its promises and if it’s the same vehicle type, you might feel silly with the old platform… the one that will peace out soon ✌.

Buyers should just look at reviews like this (it’s a great one!) and decide if they want latest and greatest or if they want a solid value for proven platform. I read the OP’s review and it makes a great case for used.

There won't be a Gen 2 mme anytime soon. Ford is also unlikely to move it to the UEV before the end of the decade, if then. The UEV truck won't launch until late next year. That makes it a 2028 model. Initial evaluation won't be until a year later (unless it really flops big time). I think the soonest you'd see anything other than their UEV truck is perhaps a 2030 model, but probably 2031. There are too many other gaps in Ford's lineup to push ahead with a redesign or replatforming a niche car that's still losing money.

If they do go ahead with a Gen 2 mme, I'd be surprised to see it before the 2029 model year, and that would be based on the current GE1 platform.

Or not, Daniel, I've been known to be wrong. Ask the cat. ;)

HaHa, my version of Soon is forum appropriate! I’ll be in the market in 2030. I’ll look around at the options at that time and choose from the options. If Ford has what I want, I’ll buy it. If not… not.

In the meantime, I feel the same as the OP. I like my MME… it has its annoyances, it has ungodly old and slow Sync, the DC Fast charging is acceptable but not great. on balance, t’s been a great EV. Fun, pretty, the right size.

I have someone close to me in the market now, and like the OP, I’m saying, “used 23 or 24.”
It’s a fantastic transportation device, and that’s not an insult

I am 3 months shy of my 5 year anniversary. Only 48K miles (Damn I live close to work!!) I feel very similar to OP about the car. I have started poking around other EVs. But may keep my MME another couple of years

Biggest Cons:
Stiff Suspension
No Ventilated Seats
Slow DC Fast Charging
UI is not even close to Class Leading

But my Goodness is she screwed together well!!! Almost 5 years in, no squeaks or rattles. Feels as solid as the day I drove her off the lot. Great Car and Fun to Drive. I don't regret the decision and will include Ford when I start the hunt for the next EV.

  • OTA updates are basically finished at this point, and @Ford Motor Company has stubbornly refused to implement some easy and common-sense software enhancements requested by hundred of users in the Super Poll. Such as…

Great job @Ford Motor Company!! But seriously, read the latest Super Poll and get us more of these software enhancements!

Really? This is truly dumb. Anything running an OS and apps has a release history. Even if it is a year old.....

I’m 1 year and 19k km on my 2024 MME4X and it’s a five year lease (company car) and seriously considering buying it at the end of the lease. But AI says the car won’t be worth the residual in five years.

Has anyone finished a five year lease and in the same boat?

The 2025+ GT is the best car on the market in terms of ADAS and one pedal delight

With its hands on lane centering anywhere there are lines, and its excellent throttle and regen mapping, it’s fun to drive and drives for me

the ADAS drives the long stretches so I don’t have to keep pressing the pedal. And I have it drive as much as it can when I don’t feel like driving. It’s a great system

In one pedal make sure your seating is low and slightly further back with a slight backwards tilt to avoid discomfort. the steering column can be adjusted to be pulled towards you. this also makes the car feel delightfully sporty
Recently, I changed my seating to a higher more classical upright one pedal drive position, and it's so much fun  Incredibly fun. Ford did an excellent job. Feels agile, athletic. You can have so many subtle slows and starts, weaving through local roads, highway merges, and parking lots. Feels like a predator

I do have Hyundais, Teslas, and Polestars to compare it to

The previous low seating was working, but for very long drives I started aching, and I soon got used to the novelty of the low seat

My car turns 5 June 1st with less than 80K miles. I don't drive it much now that I work from home but still absolutely love this car. It's such a joy to drive and I have never felt that way about any other car I've owned. Always ready to get new one after 3 years. I plan on keeping it and doing the rally spring upgrade somewhere in the near future

Things might pivot with a new Ford CEO. A topic for a different thread.
