I appreciate the safetiness of the eye on the road monitor, but I like to drive with my arm at the 12 o'clock position. Is there any way to disable this feature or make it work with my arm in the way?

Under what conditions are you getting an alert to keep your eyes on the road? That alert should only occur if you are using BlueCruise.

Perhaps you can look into somehow relocating the module with the eye cameras so that it has a clear view of your face while you’re in your driving position?

Google: is 10 and 2 still recommended

Having your arm at 12 o'clock increases your chances for injury in an air bag deploy accident.

Take a driving course for your own safety. This is what is taught now.

It works whether or not BC is activated.

No, and no. It’s a safety system, you cannot and should not disable it. As Steve Jobs once said “You’re holding it wrong”. 12 o clock position will tear your arm off when the airbag goes off. End of PSA ;)

There are ways to disable the eye monitor. Turn off lane keeping, BC, or hands free BC. You can also turn off radar cruise control in the settings. Someone also suggested on Reddit to cover the module with electrical tape. It’ll turn off the nanny, but you can’t use the advanced features either.

There are tons of threads on this subject here, on Reddit, and the FB group.

I was taught 9 and 3 by the instructors at the Bob Bondurant school. Best position to keep both hands on the wheel more of the time. It is ingrained in my driving style permanently I think, and works well with paddle shifters, too.

If the airbag goes off when your arms are at 10 and 2 it's likely they'll be destroyed.

After my last update I was getting the same message and there is a way to turn it off under the settings. My Mach E was in an accident and I do not have it to refresh my memory but fish around it may have been under the cruse setting.

Pretty sure 9 and 3 is what is universally recommended now. Even 8 and 4 before 10 and 2, which is outdated.

Yeah, I never put my arm up in front of the airbag. Been in enough accidents in my lifetime to know that's a bad thing. But, I have the habit of driving with mostly my left hand (position 6?), and have my right resting on the arm rest. Only time both hands are on the wheel is when I'm on curvy road or making a sharp turn. I blame driving a manual for over a decade when I first started driving.
