When I plug in the apple magsafe charger into the USB port, I get “usb not supported” and no charging :( is it just me or a general problem?

Nope - happened to me too. The charging continues to work, however. My guess is that it's related to the support for higher rate charging over Qi.

I went and got an alternative from Amazon that works just as well but doesn't trigger the message...

Sorry, not sure how to answer the question, but can you explain how you did that setup for the phone? I'd love to copy that

thanks, on mine, it doesn't seem to charge the phone (12 pro max) :( - for the black one you purchased, is the magnets as strong as the apple original? i need it to be relatively strong for my set up to work...

just took the Magsafe charger and tested it on an AC adapter and it works... plug back into the MME usb C port, and it doesn't charge my phone. Anyone else tried this? can it be a USB port issue?

Yeah, it's super strong - practically the same as the real MagSafe charger.

Here's the one I ordered (I wanted to keep it black, and simple):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08RYGYWNP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm sure you can test it out and return it if it's not compatible with your setup.

If you have something else plugged in, perhaps it's reducing the voltage to a point where nothing is happening?

ok, got the new charger, slapped on the metal plate to attach to the magnet on the a-tach mount - no charging!!!

removed the charger from the magnet mount - it charges!!! it seems like the magnet mount from A-tach interferes with the magsafe chargers. I took the original Apple magsafe and tried it - YES, same issue, when it's attached using the magnets on the mount, no charging, when it's removed, it works. @A-Tach can you help? i went with the recommendation on your site that this can work - but i just checked and it's updated that it doesn't? so disappointing ... I would say that the magnets are interfering with the Qi charging (which utilize weak magnets as well).

are you using a magnet mount and then mounting the charger on the base using adhesive?

Yep, just like the a-tach link and printed and attachment said to do. :(

Wow, glad I saw this, I just ordered this last night. I wonder if the magnetic holder can be demagnetized? One of those old cassette tape degaussers? Too bad I failed my EE classes in college.

The magsafe cable charges at 15W, and Apple recommends their 20w adapter when you purchase it. I would assume the USB ports in the Mach E are not nearly that high. The maximum USB standard before you get to Power Delivery is like 10 watts, and it would be pretty extraordinary if Ford made those USB ports support PD and not advertise the hell out of it
