This is just another example of why Sentry Mode needs to be included in an OTA. Please @Ford Motor Company and @JimFarley98, make this a reality soon!
Tesla camera catches man faking hit-and-run (cnn.com)

Sentry Mode would also capture, as has been mentioned before, someone backing into your car, keying it, etc.

As far as I can tell the hardware/technology is already in the car - seems like a software project that should take high precedence over something like, um, being able to play tick-tack-toe on the center console...

Is there any reason to believe that the current cameras could capture this kind of video? The side cameras are pointed down.

There's a good chance that the multiple cameras required by BlueCruise 2.0 could provide at least some level of video surveillance. How it would compare to Tesla's Sentry Mode may not be certain at this point, but I believe Ford has commented in the past that a similar system should be possible with the Mach-Es factory hardware.

I'm just bumping this up for more awareness. This is a huge miss that points the finger at Ford's inability, or refusal to evolve as a technology company and keep pace with competition in this space. @Ford Motor Company

Ford, you have the advantage of a globally recognized brand with an incredibly rich history and loyal customers. It's time to set the pace for the next hundred years and refuse to continue donating market share by pairing great hardware with inadequate innovation in software. You have to do better.

In many ways, you've come out of the gate swinging in the BEV market with a very strong first showing with a capable machine but that's no longer good enough in a world where OTA updates are a thing. The hardware is there. Your lack of OTA's and innovations is alarming at best. Let's face it, BlueCruise brings the driving experience to just below parity with Tesla's assist and GM's super cruise. Not a one-up, but coming in below what's already being done by the competition.

I love my MME. But Ford has to step up and deliver updates as a tech leader and bring features that are competitive in the market, utilizing the hardware that already exists. There's no more excuses and I'm tired of waiting.

It's not like they haven't thought about using the devices already in their vehicles...
DEARBORN, Mich., July 19, 2013 – A new technology available for Ford Police Interceptor will provide an additional measure of security for law enforcement officers by mitigating their risk of being snuck up on from the rear while working in their vehicles, especially at night.

The new surveillance mode technology works by using existing Ford driver-assist technologies – a backup camera, cross-traffic alert and reverse park assist – to give police officers added situational awareness and a first line of defense from potential assailants.

When an officer activates the system with the vehicle in park, the backup camera, combined with sensors that detect blind spots and parking obstacles, continually monitors the area to the rear of the vehicle. Surveillance mode can be turned off in situations such as curbside urban settings where pedestrians would constantly set the alarm off.

The patent-pending idea is the brainchild of Randy Freiburger, Ford police and ambulance fleet supervisor. Freiburger spent many hours riding along with police officers and saw firsthand the dangers officers face in the course of routine patrols and investigations.

I know this tech seems super cool and useful to many owners, but, for me it’s like 1088 on the list of things I want/need. Owners that park outside all of the time will no doubt appreciate it.

Look at the link I provided in the first post of this thread. You may park at home or in a garage but you need to drive your car as well. Imagine if you went to a convenience store, restaurant, dropped your kids at school, etc. and an a**hole like that pretended that you backed into him. Not sure about you, but I'd love to have Sentry Mode footage to show the Police...

I understand and I saw that article on a different site today as well. I’ve never needed that in all of my years of driving (30 now) and I do have front/rear dash cams anyway. So, if that feature truly costs me $0 dollars then sign me up, otherwise, make it optional for owners who are willing to pay for it. Win, win.

I have to respectfully disagree. Take a look at the Wham Bam Teslacam YT channel. It has helped solve a lot of accidents of people who drove into Teslas, vandalized Teslas and the like. Besides, it seems like the software is there, the USB ports are there to stick a small drive into and we could easily have this functionality. It will have to come from Ford since I don't see a 3rd party being able to modify Ford's software due to liability and greater stability issues.

I get it. However, I don’t want to have to pay for it since I’ve decided I don’t need/want it. So, if it gets pushed via OTA for free, I’m in. If it requires payment, get it from those who want it. No losers.

Ya! No interest in paying for this feature either and no interest in using it either. This what insurance is there for. If sentry mode made it easier for TSLA folks to prevent insurance fraud the insurance on the cars would be lower. Last I recall TSLA insurance is not lower so my thought is sentry mode is a waste of everyone's time. For everyone caught there are a thousand folks wasting their time trying to catch these folks. And wasting police time as well on simple misdemeanor.

Not sure the Sync4a has the needed hardware to pull this off.

The navigation software is “meh” at best and already has resource issues during boot up and some basic searches (thanks Garmin).

The Sync system would need a separate or partitioned off disk space to store the video. Pretty sure that’s not there.

Lastly, the onboard modem that the car uses to communicate with the Ford API is only 3G/IOT and doesn’t have the needed bandwidth (or carrier agreement) to upload the data to a cloud. This is a separate modem than the 4G modem that drivers are able to activate for in-vehicle hotspot but that requires a paid subscription. The vehicle hotspot powers off when the radio powers off. Most likely, this modem is part of the APIM and gets its power only when the vehicle is powered on or in full accessory mode.

To be honest, I really don’t see Ford doing too much with the current Sync 4a system as they have already announced plans to ditch BlackBerry QNX in favor of Android Auto.

I live in one of the safest cities in America and I park in the garage. I like the idea of this kind of available surveillance, I'm in no hurry.
