I ONLINE ordered a mach e premium with dual motor on 8/1. I didn't go to dealer at all just choose a nearest dealer when filled out the form. After more than 3 month wait, got email notice today that the car arrived at the dealer: Fremont Ford, Newark, CA. I rushed to the dealer, and what a horrible experience: The dealer asked for $10K markup on my online order. What a scum! Should I fight for it or just switch to Tesla. This supposed to be my first Ford, and it totally ruined my experience.

Updates 6(11/13): Already knew 4 victims of such online order markup at just one dealer, I believe this is widespread practice, especially in Nor Cal. I dont believe this could be handled case by case through Mr Levine and we need to think what we could do to protect our consumer rights. I start a new thread https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...mach-e-online-order-and-dealers-markup.11395/ to collect the infos and decide what to do next.

Update 5(11/13): Since a lot of guys are doubt the authencity of this thread, I just googled the Fremont Ford, and found out that this kind of markup on the online mme order has been going along for a long time. Anup Chatterjee has the similiar experience and have opened a case at ford and clearly Ford could not do much about it, at least in nor cal. See the snap shot at the end of the post from google's review.
Ford Mustang Mach-E The dealer ask for $10K markup on my mach e online order Capture1

Update 4 (11/11): After One day research, I found out that I could not do much regarding the markup. So I decided to negotiate with them about the markup and they told me the car was sold to someone else. What a joke for these guys! What a buying experience for the past 2 days! Brighter side is that I dont need to pay the $10K markup anymore.

Update 3(11/10): Just talked with the ford.com rep, the conclusions: The ford online reservation/ordering is just a joke. The dealer could markup any amount they want and the ford could not do much. So please dont online order the mach e anymore. It just give the dealer the advantage to markup the price to a ridiculous amount. The online order price info is useless. If you dont want to deal with the hassle of the dealers and their markup, go for tesla.

Update 2: Timeline of the reservation (the date about the order status change is not exact since I didnot keep all the records)
Mid July: in market for a EV, initial target is Model Y. See the suv of the year Mache, Test drive a premium version at Fremont Ford, Newark, CA. LIke the interior. Dealer told $5K markup for the car test drived, otherwise need to order on line and wait forever.
7/31: Ordered mach e premium with dual motor on ford.com, initial estimate is 5-6 month.
8/1: Order confirmed.
8/2: Got the email confirmation that dealer accepted the order.
As seen from below, the dealer agreed price is $51400.
9/1: Get the email notice of the status to be scheduling production
10/1: Get the email notice of the scheduled production date is 10/15.
10/15: Get the vin number from ford.com
11/1: Get the delivery date 11/10- 11/16
11/9: Get the email notice of the car delivered to the dealer. Check out on the ford.com
Go to dealer at 7PM and told need $10K extra markup. Told them I need to contact ford first.

I don't think there's much you can do, as I don't think this was your order considering only a 3 month wait time. You either took over an existing abandoned order or put a deposit on a dealer ordered car.

Lots of dealers are adding ADM on all of these cars if you weren't the original originator of the order.

Was there any agreement in regards to pricing when you "ordered"?

While at the dealer, we ordered our Premium MME AWD ER in Dark Matter Gray on Aug 5, 2021. Just received our VIN and a build date of 1/10/22. BTW, when we placed our order, we have in writing, NO additional dealer markups. Now we wait!

This is my original online order, it showed exact progress during the 3+ month on the ford.com of my account there.

On the ford.com==> my reservation and orders ==> reservation details:
Dealer Selling Price: $51,400.00

Is this the contract price?

Send a Tweet to @mrlevine . He has helped many MachE customers nix ADM. I would tag @Ford and JimFarley98 as well. Make a huge fuss onTwitter until someone reaches out from Ford to help,

You did a smart move with the writing.
I did not go to the dealer, directly order online, choose the nearest dealer. I was surprised that they will add the markup for it. I checked with the ford website, it looks like the dealer selling price on the order is kind of a contract. Will talk with ford's contact tomorrow. Finger crossed!

Thanks! I will talk with ford customer support tomorrow. Since it is an online order, I thought I have a chance there. If not, will do the tweets. This is insane. My wife now want to order an tesla now though I still prefer the mach e if it could be resolved.

You do understand that it is not a completely online order form the dealer has to accept it and input it themselves. Ford has to go through the dealerships it's not fords fault it's scumbag dealers. They need to have the ability for both. It is super convenient having dealerships around for parts and to maintain my ice vehicles though. On your online order form there's a spot that says markup or additional added cost and if it's a zero they're not supposed to be able to add anything. For should help you out hopefully.

I asked every dealer around me about ADM before I put my reservation in. I ended up going almost 200 miles away to find a dealer that would take xplan and put it in writing. I learned a lot by trying to reserve a Bronco; it's really a damn shame that Fords plan is trial by fire. Hope it works out for you.

If it’s truly 3 months, you got the fastest delivered Mach E ever, by about a few months.

Mine was relatively quick and took almost exactly 6 months.

Need more details on your process. How did you convert a reservation to an order without visiting a local dealership?

I had to go to a dealer and show my ID to convert to an order.

Normal process-
Ford.com- create reservation, pick dealer
Local dealer- show up, show ID, convert to order

A couple months pass

Get VIN and build date

A couple months pass

Built/shipped

A month passes

Car shows up.

If you got a VIN and build date right away, you could get it in 3 months. But it means it was someone else’s cancelled order, which usually means ADM, because you’re paying extra to “skip the line.” But $10k is outrageous if so.

not much you can do to stop them, it's a crappy thing to do and others have had similar probs. I recommend when talking to someone contemplating ordering that AT TIME OF ORDER. they get in writing pricing etc. So for instance, I ordered my car, my particular dealer was up front, they had a $5k adjustment to the "dealer selling price" which showed up on my order summary page. I immediately spoke to the gm of the dealer. He specified in writing I would get both msrp and xplan. So when the car arrived, no drama, I showed up and was on the road in an hour and a half.

It's just not a good idea to trust that your dealer will do the right thing. Get it in writing early on.

nope, they can increase the price if you don't have a firm commitment to msrp at time of order
