I purchased a brand new Mustang Mach E California Route 1 edition last weekend. The car is in August build with only 33 miles when I bought it new from my local Ford dealer. Since the moment I drove it off the lot, I am noticing a strange clunk noise coming when I accelerate or break from the rear undercarriage. It almost sounds as if I had a hitch attached pulling a trailer and that little bit of play in the hitch.

I checked around underneath the car and cannot find anything loose and I have tried removing items from the cargo area the noise is still there and loud enough to be noticed in the cab each time I break and accelerate.

I have only found one other post similar with this condition, if any Ford people or others with this issue - can you advise?

Thank you!

Good afternoon, Evan! We want to get to the bottom of this acceleration noise concern with your Mach-E. Can you please send over a private message with your VIN and the name and location of your local Ford dealer so we can look further into this for you?

I have a similar issue that I posted about in this thread: GTPE clunk under rear seat during hard acceleration or braking | MachEforum - Ford Mustang Mach-E Forum, News, Owners, Discussions

I brought it to the dealer and they replaced one rear strut which didn't solve the problem. Then they determined it was coming from directly below the rear seat so Ford Engineering had them remove the battery and reinstall. They told them it sounded like the battery was making contact with the body/frame. After reinstallation of the battery, no joy. They told me to pick it up and it was fine to drive. They said Ford Engineering was looking into it and would get back to them. This was the first week of November, but I haven't heard anything from the dealer on a resolution.

Gary, did you listen to my video? Curious to know if we have the same clunk noise...

I did. It's similar, but can't say it's the same for sure. I only seem to have it under higher acceleration and higher g braking than what I saw in your video.

Update...

I just picked up my MME from the local Ford Dealer trying to figure out what the clunking noise is when i brake and they said it was... wait for it.... normal! Said it's the auto brake feature engaging and disengaging. This is NOT true. At all. the clucking noise occurs regardless of one pedal drive. Also, my father has the same car and it does not make any noise when accelerating or braking. I've contacted ford and apparently I have to call Ford direct when I bring it back and they have to send a specialized tech to the dealer to look at the car. Man, what a pain in the A$$!!

Anyone else have this issue? again, here is the clip with sounds. https://photos.app.goo.gl/w3ZnXxBHeKFsAj4M6

Does this sound normal to any of you? I've never owned an electric car that clunks when you stop and go.

OK, so another update here. After Ford engineers hearing my "clunk" noise from my video posted on this forum, my local dealer reached out to me again and now agreed that the noise was not normal. I brought my MME back in for service on Monday, 1/10/22 and it's still in the shop. They looked at a lot of things and tried loosening and tigtening things under the car to no avail.

The service manager's latest update as of this Monday, 1/17 is that there is something wrong inside the rear drive unit and it will need to be replaced. The rear drive unit encompasses the motor and other items related to propelling the car - hence a critical piece of the car. They have ordered a new rear drive unit and as of yesterday, 1/20/2022 the new unit has not arrived. So hopefully it will be received and I can get my MME back, fully repaired by the end of next week.

So how does this all make me feel? First, thanks to Ford (the company) for pushing the dealer to look at this again. I have always owned Ford's and love the brand. Second, I am truly disappointed that the car was delivered new to the dealer I purchased from (Ferman Ford in Clearwater, FL) with this issue and was SOLD TO ME FOR OVER $6K ABOVE MSRP in this condition. The MSRP for my MME Cali Route One was $52K, but the price Ferman charged was almost $59K (demand markup). Ferman Ford is still marking up these MME's they sell by $5 - 7K. I had this issue when first driving off the lot, but thought it might be something simple like the charging cable sliding around in the rear trunk. Also, I'm disappointed that Sunrise Ford in Fort Pierce, FL (my local dealer) told me the issue was normal on my first visit. I overpaid by $6K for a car that was faulty from delivery. Sunrise did not ask me if I needed a loaner car, but luckily I have another vehicle at home I've been able to use. I am now two service trips to the dealer and almost two weeks without my MME. The whole ordeal has been frustrating to say the least. Apologies to vent on here, but I'm disappointed that I overpaid for a new vehicle that is already in need of such repair.

Will update when I have news to share. Thanks to those who have tried to help!

Ford folks, not sure if you're looking at dealer markup's on the MME's the way you are with the Lightning, but checkout these markup's at Ferman Ford in Clearwater, FL.

https://www.fermanfordclearwater.com/new-inventory/index.htm?model=Mustang Mach-E

Sold me my MME for $59K on a MSRP of $52K.
While ADM frustrates us all, dealers can try to sell their cars at any price they want. I’m not sure what you expect Ford to do about it, given dealership franchise laws.

The letter from Ford on the Lightning was about dealers charging extra deposits or selling spots in the waiting line, not ADM.
