I really think this is going to get worse before it gets better. Like others have pointed out, for those who are driving a lot of miles each week the cost of gas will really start to add up, especially if it goes a lot higher than it is currently. Even if you were charging at EA stations and paying for the charge you would be farther ahead than paying for gas. And for Ioniq 5 owners, Hyundai gives 2 years of free charging at EA stations. I cannot imagine the markup on those if gas prices keep going up.

Demand for EV's is already higher than supply. If there is a lot more demand in the near future that will only make the situation worse than it already is.
I agree. I ordered in Oct and my gas bill then was $250/mo. I caved and bought one off a lot 2 weeks ago. At the end of January my fuel bill was $300/mo with gas around 2.80/gallon (if I drive an extra 8 miles for Costco). Now gas is at 3.35/gallon. The Ukraine conflict by all accounts is going to drive fuel costs even higher. I’m thankful to not have to worry about it now, plus I can charge at work for free and I figure I’m saving about 3+ hours a month driving and waiting for gas at Costco. Oh and all the money I’m saving not going to Costco 6 times a month!

More philosophical questions? It doesn’t really matter which is more important. I only have control over one of those things.

It’s not a either/or type of question.

It does get you thinking, I’m just not sure why you asked.
It does quality of life would be pay a higher price over sticker no waiting. Quantity would be saving the money, by paying sticker price and a 6 month wait. One is steak one is bubble gum

Did you miss the part where she can charge at work for free?

Personally, I spend less than 0.05 per mile for my vehicle. At $3/gal that's the equivalent of 60mpg.

What does gas cost these days?

It only makes more and more financial sense to have an EV.

Ah makes sense. And it’s what I’ve been saying seems fair. Each person can choose.

Except people like me. I ordered a GTPE in April. Waiting was the only option.

My work has EV parking set up with a 50 amp so I charge for free. If I had to charge exclusively at home my electric bill might double because it’s typically only about $75 in non summer months. Charging at home would add $50-70 per month, but so far I haven’t had to charge at home.

Is electricity really expensive in New York?

From what I read here, if you need a vehicle ASAP (for whatever reason) then prepare for the ADM. I’m not in a rush since I have a car now. I got the NE regional discount and x plan pricing. Total 3k off sticker and no ADM.
I just put a deposit down for a Mach E GT from a cancelled order and live in one of the NE states. Will be delivered next month. No ADM. Albeit it's a 2021 model with production date 12/2021. Seeing that it already took three months to deliver a vehicle, the scary part about now is that the federal tax credits will likely start phasing out either in Q3 or Q4 of this year. Since some of the 2022 models just sold out on the website, it is likely that it may be even delivered next year. It relieves a lot of stress given the shortage (which will probably be exacerbated given the current energy crisis.)

I also ordered a Mach E Premium ER AWD two weeks ago, and was already told dealer had to call Ford to see if I were getting a 2022 or 2023. They also gave me a NE regional discount of $2k.

I had to search around to find a Mach E which wasn't getting an ADM. (Most of the new models nearby dealers had in stock were charging $10k ADMs, but I was able to find one that wasn't 20 miles away.) Given Russia's sanctions, increasing energy costs, increasing interest rates this year and the phase out of the fed tax credits, it is most likely that I will be overpaying if I got the car later this year. Good thing it was a 2021, because they were cheaper MSRP than the 2022 models, so the NE regional discount didn't do much for me.

In this case, patience may not be a virtue. Getting $3k off MSRP and waiting 10 months is probably not even worth it if you can get MSRP now and if you're financing and/or trading in your old vehicle (while trade in values are still high now, or even risking losing some of the federal tax credit.)

That being said, I would still not pay for an ADM, and search around some dealers who would not charge an ADM from a cancelled order.

If you need a car right now for any reason, be prepared to pay an ADM. If you have a vehicle now that is fine, it’s silly to pay ADM. Gas prices, it may break, Insurance, whatever excuse. It’s ok to want a new car. Time goes so fast.

It's not so simple as you say though...if you cannot get the MME within the next 7 or 10 months, your federal tax credit reduces by $3750. Paying a $2000 ADM might be worth it to guarantee a car now. Plus, each month you drive the MME, you save on average about $80-100 in gasoline costs. There are so many factors to consider when purchasing a car.

Waiting ten months means I would have to throw away another $100 on extra gas costs per month, which amounts to another $1000 wasted.

Some dealerships in the NE gets this regional discount of $2000 against the MSRP. My guess it's there because Ford wants more buyers of their EV in that particular area.
to me it seems like the dealers dont care if you buy or not. some dealer told me 7k over I oinked in the phone and hung up

All depends on how long they have had the car. Flooring costs add up.

That's true, which is why you have to constantly check the Ford inventory website for new vehicles. I was able to get one at MSRP on my second try for MSRP without an ADM.
