Honestly Ford really sucks here.
They use their dealers to deliver their shitty messages instead of sending an email directly to their consumers.

We can assume that most owners aren’t part of a forum like this so they really only get info from their dealers.

Now to their eyes the dealer (who’s just the messenger and it’s not their fault the APIM is bricked) is telling then there’ll be a fix in Feb and to come back in March if fix isn’t there.
People are gonna flock to their dealers and be upset at them for a problem that Ford created and isn’t communicating clearly on.

The dealership model sucks yeah but this isn’t fair to them.

I would like to go to my dealer and ask them to replace the APIM module, but I'm not sure they got APIM module spairs. And I'm not sure that they will agreed with that.
There are probably a few spares but not many, and certainty enough to go around . I have no doubt that if a special OTA isn’t pushed soon, or if dealers aren’t provided with a means to resolve the problem software soon, tge snither communique will be sent out to dealers about the issue and potential resolution.

Once again it's communication by Ford (or lack thereof). I have tried 3 times now to reach out to one of my contacts at Ford who told me mid January that the fix was coming "soon" and then I haven't heard a word from her since. It seems Ford is "stonewalling" all of us with this problem and won't at least tell us what the delay is (I've heard the conjecture about the first "fix" not working on all cars but nothing official by Ford). I've written to my contact again today pleading with her to at least acknowledge me and answer my e-mail to let me know what is really going on. The goal post keeps on being moved back while all of us affected sit here frustrated at there being no solution. Like I said before, Ford needs to admit defeat if a software/firmware update/flash won't fix this problem in ALL the Mach E's affected. I know there is a microchip shortage and the APIM modules may be in short supply however it does no good waiting for a solution which doesn't correct the problem and Ford might as well begin making arrangements to try a different fix. Of course, I'm whistling in the dark as we all are because I don't know what they are trying or when a realistic date will be. I'm just extremely frustrated and want my Mach E to perform as advertised. The Startup updates are well along from the 1.6 update I am stuck with (2.5?). ☹??

Okay, so what are we all putting in our service requests tomorrow?

@Ford Motor Company, feel free to weigh in. I don't want to get to the dealer and have them reject our claims.

It feels like the only way this is going to get resolved is when enough of us go through the process to document the issue with our dealer and begin the buy back process.

The "fix" has to become the cheaper option for Ford. Right now potentially replacing all these APIMs would mean reduced supply for new vehicles (less product to sell), not something Ford wants.

If the option becomes either; 1) replace all these APIMs or 2) buy back/replace thousands of Job 1 vehicles. The math tilts in our favor.

I guess I'm not sure why so many people are wanting an APIM replacement when we've seen people on here that have gotten it replaced, and it goes right back into the same locked state.

If it was as simple as replacing the APIM, I don't think Ford would be telling dealers not to replace it, and to wait on an official fix. Its possible that it might take an APIM replacement, but also require something else to be fixed at the same time to keep it from going back into that state. Possibly related to the GWM.

Also keep in mind, a warranty replacement APIM, is likely going to be a refurbished module, not a brand new one.

Mine is booked in to the dealer to get something done to make sure the OTAs get through in future. But I don’t know any more than that. Not sure what to look for to see what’s changed/replaced either.

It is likely an issue of software combined with a specific version of one or more modules. If it was only a software issue, then the Job 2 vehicles would have the same issues as Job 1.

Lets assume that it is indeed both the APIM and GWM. This would actually compound Fords supply problems.

If there were no semiconductor shortage, its reasonable to presume that Ford would/could take a different route.

Development teams and Electrical Engineer teams get expensive really really quickly. But when the alternative is to reduce production of a high margin product with a typical $50k-70k selling price multiplied by a few hundred thousand vehicles. You can see why Ford prefers to wait and see if they can fix the software first.

Looks like I'm onboard the no APIM serial number boat as well as being stuck after a failed update like everybody else in this thread. But I did get my glass recalls done last week. ?

don't worry a fix is coming in February 2022 and BlueCruise Q2 2021. Frunk Button is also coming soon in Q1 2022.

I'm delaying my dealer visit for the same issue. It's pretty clear there's not a fix for the whatever's preventing the updates, so I'd be setting myself and the dealership up for a rant & rave post that does neither of us any good.
