Would you have ordered the Mach E if there was no Tax Credit available?

I’m hoping I will get the tax credit as my Mach is due here (so they say) in October. Did the government tax credit affect your decision to buy the Mach E or another EV?

That question is going to get invalid answers, because people say one thing and do another. There will be a few people who say it did. If they do, ask them what they would have bought instead.

Some, including myself, had to generate tax liability to use the credit. In other words, had I not bought an EV, I wouldn't have done a Roth conversion, and wouldn't have had tax liability to offset the EV tax credit.

With 90% of our retirement funds already Roth, I didn't need to do any conversions, but I did so as to not waste the tax credit.

Not at all, I was buying that car regardless of the tax credit. That was just a nice added bonus. Worth the 15-month wait as well. YMMV.

The tax credit was the reason I thought about purchasing an Mach E. I was going to purchase a Tesla Y and then was informed about the $7500 Federal Tax Credit. I decided to go with the Mach E because of that.

I would have bought the Mustang even if there was no tax credit available. However, if the Mustang had a competitor that did everything we want and need (AWD, 300+ mile range, hatchback crossover SUV, pure electric) and had a competitive price with or without the tax credit, we would have considered a different vehicle.

Now that we have the Mustang, there's no way I would trade it for any other EV that I've tested.

In my cynical opinion, all of the manufacturers inflate their prices so they're the ones receiving the benefit of the tax credit.

It definitely got my interest in the MachE. Combining the credit and high trade in value for the Fusion Energi, I placed an order knowing the down payment was zero risk. After riding in the MachE and seeing the premium model in person at the Philly car show, I was hooked and would still purchase if the credit is lessened or gone.

That plus the MSRP increases would have made me think about it. Everything today is more expensive.

For me no. I was only considering cars with the tax credit. If a tax credit never existed for EVs maybe, but I don’t know what my thoughts would have been then. I love my car and I’m thankful I’m getting a tax credit (maybe even 2). My decision to buy an EV was purely a financial decision though.
About 3 weeks before I placed my order in October, I filled my gas tank and it ticked over $50 total. Now that seems low, but that was a gut punch. They had also just installed free charging spots at work. My car was 9 years old and I knew I was going to need something sooner than later. I knew I couldn’t afford a new car or newer car. Electric was the only option.

My math as of October…
$400 car payment
$275 gas (100 gallons per month)
=$675
New car payment (current)
$810 (more than I wanted, but didn’t plan for warranty, etc)
-$104 (7500 tax credit split out across 72 month loan)
=$706

Granted now gas is much higher and I could have rationalized it since gas would be $100 more a month. Basically with the tax credit, I figured I would be pretty close to breaking even. Actually right now I’m coming out ahead.

I can't honestly say. A while back I put an oversized amount of solar on my roof in anticipation of a future electric vehicle, so I'm looking at an effective zero dollar charge to fill when I'm at home. I would have for sure gotten something, but it may have been one of the other similar vehicles out there.

I wanted a RAV4 Prime and couldnt find any. Ordered MME and eventually found one on a lot and purchased because of the ax credit.

I was looking to get an EV, but was in no rush. Liked the Mustang over all others at the time given the choices (though I knew the EV 6 was coming). The only thing the credit help me do was accelerate the choice to buy it and get it, and weighed into what model I wanted since I expected the credit to be available.

So yes, was going to get the Mache, it just affected the when and which model. (pssst, went with the GT)
