Staying at Pismo Coast Village RV park for spring break and got here to find the perfect setup. RV runs on the 30 amp 3 prong plug while the 50 amp 4 prong is unused perfect for the Ford Mobile EVSE. Charged up to 80% over night and wake up to a notice on my windshield. I talked to security on my way to lunch and was told it’s technically not in the rules yet but they don’t want you doing it until they figure out a way to charge you for it. ??‍♂

If read your note correctly, you are using both outlets while normally only one would be used for the RV. I image they are expecting you to only draw so much power for your RV and their cost for you to stay their reflects in their price. By using both outlets, more electricity is being used, they have to pay for that cost and they do not know how to charge you for that use. The gray area is that it is not in their rules but they are enforcing it.

I think you can look at it two ways. They do not have rules saying that I cannot do it and now the are changing the rules. The other way, and I think that is more fair, is that you are using more electricity, and they are paying for that use. You could make them an offer to show them how much you charged and pay them a cost per kilowatt, based on what they normally charge guests for their RV's.

I guess it all depends on how you look at it. Some people use more than others. Older trailers can use more due to the type of lighting and older appliances. Some plug in electric heaters and BBQs. Some trailers have dual AC units. I have a newer trailer and besides the LED lighting and the fridge, there’s a little bit of tv use and charging of cell phones. Not using AC at this time of year but charged peak pricing because it’s a holiday. Electricity use is built into the price for sure. I know at some places monthly rates do not include electricity usage. It really wasn’t a post of me complaining about not being able to charge but just fyi more than anything. Obvi it’s more convenient to charge there but there is an EA down the road next to Starbucks that I’ll use no problem in the future.

I'm sure if you threw a few bucks at them beforehand they'd be totally OK with it.

I was at a campsite at Angels Camp and they had EV chargers by the office. That made sense, but did note the outlets at each hookup as well.

We need to patent a "charger passthrough", which is really a 3-prong and 4-prong plug on one side of the camper, and a charging cable on the other (or tucked under the hookup for the 5th wheel). Electricity is going "into" the camper, and the car is being charged from electricty "from" the camper. Technically within the rules!

If it's "technically not in the rules yet," what are they whining about? ?
