Did Ford give the F-150 Lightning 100% power access while our Mach-E's remain limited?

Ford just announced that they decided to up the juice on the F-150 lightning.

Those lucky first F-150 customers have now been met with an additional bonus, as Ford has revealed updated specs for both the standard- and extended-range versions of its F-150 Lightning. More specifically, the electric pickups arrive with more horsepower and additional payload capacity.

Here’s how they inevitably stack up compared to what was originally promised last May:

F-150 LightningStandard Range Battery (May 2021)Standard Range Battery (May 2022)Extended Range Battery
(May 2021)
Extended Range Battery
(May 2022)
Horsepower426 HP452 HP563 HP580 HP
Torque775 lbs-ft775 lbs-ft775 lbs-ft775 lbs-ft

----

Good for lightning owners but it's still pretty frustrating that our Mach-E haven't been given the same courtesy.

I'll be extremely upset if the F-150 lightning accelerates harder and for longer then ends up with a higher trap speed in the quarter mile than the GT and GTPE variants.

Thoughts?

There's nothing wrong with what they did. As @hybrid2bev mentioned, the Mach E went through a similar thing. It's just Ford getting their final spec numbers in order.

To clarify, I'm thrilled that the F-150 lightning is making more power.

What I'm not thrilled about is that the F-150 lightning appears to be using the same dual motor BorgWarner setup but without the 75% to 85% power cap as seen in our cars. Do you think they'll have a 5 second throttle limit partnered with a long recovery time? I imagine not. This might be pretty detrimental if someone was trying to tow in the mountains. ?‍♂

I'm curious to see how all of this shakes out with the F-150 and if we'll ever see any improvements on the MME end of things.

Yes, under promise, over deliver. VW apid dearly for their magically low emissions numbers. They didn't count on some technical school experiments to find their trickery! I wondered why my I'm the Bumper DEF tank never needed filling.

As others have stated the mach-e had a bump in power to all trims even the GT before release. However I think with fords track record it is more import to know how many seconds that power is available for rather than the actual number ?

The combined maximum power possible of the mach-e large motors is 562hp & 634lbs so less than the maximum of f150, so similar but not the same.

While the f150 may not lead to an improvement to the power 5 second limitation the GT/GTPE currently hobbled with straight away I imagine the data they will gather will useful for Ford and may lead to some much needed improvements later on.

At the moment the only real option people have in the performance cuv bev space is the model Y performance or the mach-e GT/GTPE when the Kia ev6 GT and Hyundai Ioniq 5 N eventually show up next year some time it will probably force Ford to make updates if they want to remain competitive which hopefully all existing GT/GTPE owner will benefit from.

The F-150 Lightning's curb weight is about 1100 pounds heavier than the GTPE. That's

I suspect the F-150 has overall beefier connectors, cables/wires, etc. for the HV power. (I haven't looked at a tear-down comparison, so I don't know if this is true.) This might be needed to provide 10,000 pounds towing and high power, high torque through a broader range of conditions compared with the Mustang. There's an "extra" 500 kg or more mass in the F-150 compared with the Mustang (and almost 1000 kg compared with the non-E F-150), and at least some of that is going to be in copper.

When the truck's not loaded, there's no reason it wouldn't be expected to outperform the Mustang on the strip, despite the ~15-20% more mass.

I would not be surprised to see the 2024 or 2025 Mustang GTPE with significantly beefier hardware and less conservative software.
