Yeah, I think everyone is treating this car like an ICE.

It doesn’t have a transmission. Is “neutral” even anything?

And a bunch of people have referenced a “parking pawl,” and I don’t think we even have one. We have a “park lock actuator,” but with no real transmission I think it works differently.

Park pawl is circled. The tooth engages notches in the output shaft ring. It works the same as a regular automatic transmission except the pawl is actuated by a solenoid instead of a gear shifter cable.

Not that I'm aware of....I just always throw it in park and let the car do the rest. I'll be sure to look around in the setting sometime soon.
How do you know the parking brake is engaging? Does it say BRAKE in the instrument cluster? When does the brake disengage?

It says on the instrument panel when you put in park.

I meant to post about the parking brake getting automatically applied, *sometimes., that I wasn't imagining it. *Sometimes* when I park my car on the slightly sloped driveway, the parking brake is automatically engaged.

I've always used the parking brake ever since I started driving. I cringe whenever I see a car just bounce back and forth when someone just slams a car on park and let it go. I thought it should be common sense that it cannot be good for the car. At the very least, if you don't want to use the parking brake for whatever reason (such as the MME to avoid the pad fusing to the rotor from rust after a wash), put the car on park, and then gradually ease off the brake pedal.
Yeah. My driveway has a slight incline. It usually sets automatically but sometimes it would forget and the car would roll back until the parking pawl engages. It can be a bit rough so I just always remember to set it manually. That way I cover those few times where it forgets.

Park (P)

This position locks the driveline and prevents the wheels from turning. Come to a complete stop before putting your vehicle into and out of park (P). A tone sounds when you shift to park (P).

The electric parking brake could apply when you shift to park (P) without the brake pedal fully pressed. The electric parking brake applies when you shift to park (P) on large slopes. The electric parking brake releases with the drive away release function or manually.

Note: A warning tone sounds if you open the driver door and you have not shifted the transmission selector to park (P).

So if the parking brake engages for some people every time they put it in Park, maybe they’re not fully pressing the brake pedal? Not sure what else to make of it.

I just went to my car and played for a second. I put in park and then when I turn off the car it engages the parking brake automatically. It did this in my garage with my practically standing on the brake, because of the above question about fully pressing brake pedal.

Does it disengage the brake when you shift out of Park or do you have to press the accelerator?
