When I park, is the parking brake applied automatically? The manual is confusing. It mentions the parking brake being applied automatically, but says that it might happen. There’s two different places in the manual, and they literally direct you to each other for info.

But it also automatically releases when you switch to Drive and apply accelerator.

I have only heard it engage when I open the door before shutting it off or I’m parked on an incline.

And yet, if I park, shut off, then pull the switch, I get a message that the parking brake is turned on. Is this just redundant for dummies?

I understand it makes sense it would be applied automatically, there’s just some inconsistencies in the manual and the UI

For whatever reason, I shut off the car still in Drive. I saw the message pop up that the brake was engaged. But never see that when I shut off in Park like normally.

If you park on a steep incline the auto parking brake will engage. When you are ready to leave I've just put it in reverse with foot on the brake and then pressed (not pulled) the emergency brake switch on the console.

I've also had it engage on a slight incline but didn't need to do anything different then parking on a level area. Just put in drive or reverse like normal.

I exclusively shutoff the car in drive and only notice the parking brake engaging in the instances I mentioned above. ?‍♂

You must not have updated powertrain software then. The automatic parking brake was included in OTAs about a year ago. The noise is not as loud or long as the regular parking brake engagement. The auto brake stops the car from bouncing off the park pawl.

Maybe. I don’t recall all the updates I’ve gotten. Maybe I haven’t noticed the new functionality.
