MMB box vs Carlinkit box for Netflix/youtube etc…

Just for clarification, you should e to plug this in right? It’s not wireless like the phone right? I’m wondering if I can just plug it in to the center console and leave it there.

Yep you can leave it in the compartment underneath and snake the cord up to the usb and plug in when you need it, or leave it plugged in.

Can you put it in the center console though, the one between the seats that closes. There is a USB port in there, but I wasn’t sure if that worked for CarPlay, or just power.

Only the front ones are data ports, the rest are power ports.

That’s too bad. I used to keep an old iPod touch I the center console of my fusion. It was plugged into the AV jacks too so I could watch tv when I was parked.

I dont think mine has a usb in the middle cubby. Only the 12v plug.

That’s a good point. I thought there was one there but it’s just the 12v outlet.

This was how I watched tv in my Ford back before these boxes made it easy.

I currently use the MMB (latest android 11) version. ( MMB - MMB 11 Plus Multimedia Box Android 11 Adapter– MMB Official (carplaymmb.com) )

Not all streaming apps work on this box. HBO , Netflix do but Disney+ does not install. (maybe i can sideload disney+ on it, haven't tried yet)

It does have a extra HDMI output so i can connect an extra monitor to it and keep the kids happy.

It has an optional remote, this is very handy when i do not use the Apple Carplay function in front, but only the extra connected hdmi screen.

It can handle everything i tried on it and the framerate is ok.
Dolby surround even works !

have you been able to get other apps to open on the car screen? things that weren't necessarily set up for Android auto? looking at trying to get an mmb or something to get this geo hunting game up on the screen

As it is a standard Android system it has a playstore and runs android 11.
Sideloading also works for apps that need to be installed on other ways.
