Dealer showed up at my door (2 hours away) said they need to take my MachE for recall, or they will "Deactivate It" - WTF

Sounds like a total scam. After you give them the keys, this is what happens next....

It’s not a scam, we’ve confirmed it has the seat belt recall, they never did it before selling the vehicle, and the vehicle still shows as unsold in Ford’s database even though he’s had it 7 months. Should have never left the lot and it’s unclear who actually owns the vehicle at this point.

I would ask if they could come and do this as a mobile repair, it’s simple enough. That way you don’t have to hand it over.

Right?

I especially love the people saying that there is no way the dealer can be fined, when I posted the exact wording from the recall on how they would be fined. I think this one is solved, unfortunately the OP has to get this fixed, even though the dealer was the one that seems to have screwed up.

I think that despite the kind of rough communication, the dealer is even doing the right thing here in a way. OP said the dealership is two hours away and instead of calling him and asking him to bring it in, they sent someone to get the car. That is the right move, even if it should have been communicated by phone first before they just showed up.

So the issue is legitimate, it is a safety issue, people need to stop calling it a scam. OP even said he spoke to his sales person who confirmed it.
$40k a day? I still don’t buy it. ??? But I could be wrong. ?‍♂

Yes, $40K/day is total BS. The recall is real. Due to the fact that Ford's database shows the car as unsold, it's apparent that they recall hasn't been performed yet as well. ??

I never for even a moment said the $40k/day was real, but the $21k fine is real. People were saying that the dealership can't be fined, but the stop sale clearly said they would be. But no, nobody is being fined $40k/day unless the government had made multiple attempts to get the dealer to fix this over the 7 months and maybe decided to put some other fine on them, but I doubt it.

Yes, however additional details were revealed after the original post and initial replies.
On page 1 yes, but two of us posted the actual recall and fine on page 2, and then people still a few posts later were saying it sounded like a scam, then for two more pages there were occasional posts saying it sounds like a scam and to get their pictures and that. Not everybody did, but it was obvious some people just read the first post and hit reply.

dealership said they are getting fined $40,000 a day from Ford for not getting my car recall remedied. NHTSA shows no open recalls, Ford Pass shows no open recalls - but supposedly my car is unsafe to drive. I have asked for the recall be put in writing which they (Preston Ford, DE) said they will have tomorrow and bring me a loaner so that they can take my car. Has anyone had a similar experience? BTW, I had the OTA successful update for the high voltage connector done weeks ago.
Sounds shady AF if you ask me

Right, but at 40,000 per day I'm not going home to print out something to bring back the next day! I'd show up with the fanciest loaner car and a $500 gift card and a pink unicorn the second I heard about it.
Yep. And if it was 40k a day, OP bought his car 7 months ago. Dealer would be at $8.4m in fines to date.

But clearly this is just a big mistake and I’m curious how it plays out. OP may get an extra 7 months of warranty since their car is still “unsold”. Hope it gets resolved easily!

Does the OP have license plates and registration?
yes, along with a cashed down payment cashiers check, executed (by both parties) agreement of sale, and a history of on time payments with a lender

This is so odd. Can you finance a car that Ford never recorded as being sold? Seems like something would have shown some red flags before seven months went by.

reached out to @Ford here 6 hours ago, no response whatsoever

I don't believe ford entering the legal sale into their internal proprietary system has any bearing whatsoever on ownership rights - but rather solely warranty initiation on their end and the resultant derelict actions of a dealer. banks don't check ford's internal systems before financing - nor would they have any access to thereof.
