Hi forum!

My Frunk's behavior opening and closing seems odd to me. Is this normal?

Context: I notice a large panel gap on one side of my car (passenger side) and I wonder if that and the frunk behavior is related.

Behavior: when Frunk is opened, it clicks multiple times, like it's struggling to release the latch. Closing the Frunk takes multiple attempts.

That sounds is normal. Unfortunately you have to slam it hard to close it. Use two hands. As for the gap in the photo, I'm not sure if that's normal.

The electric frunk release fires 3 or 4 times to make sure it gets by the secondary safety catch. The first time I heard it was wondering why so many times, then I watched it and sometimes the second firing happens before the latch engages the safety catch after coming off of the primary catch. I guess the software guys could have worked on timing but decided to just machine-gun the release instead. ??

I agree with Parsamoney that the gap pictures look off. ??

When you close it, throw it down like you're bouncing a basketball or something. Close that shit like you mean it! I feel like closing it hard works better than gently closing it and having to press hard to get it to latch.

I will say I think the frunk breaks in over time. In the beginning it took me several tries to get it to close, now it closes every time on the first try.

Agreed. My frunk lid seems like it takes less force to close than it did when my car was new. ??

Hello there. Could you please send us a private message with your VIN and dealership information? I'd be happy to see how I can assist.

I found a significant difference in the amount of force needed to close the hood on my 2022 MME compared to my 2021 MME. The 2021 only required a nudge of extra downward pressure whereas the 2022 required, in my opinion, very aggressive force in order to get it to latch. Adjusting the rubber stops did not reduce the amount of force required for it to latch. I took the car and my complaint to the dealer. Their conclusion was that there was nothing they could do other than apply a generous dollop of grease to the latch striker. It did close a little easier after that but it still requires quite a bit more force than the 2021. Along with the repair statement they gave me a copy of this TSB:

I have found that if you close it somewhat aggressively with one hand, but do not let go - leave your hand on the front hood all the way until it closes. For me this works every time. I think this method stops it from bouncing and it just latches.

Bring it down about 3/4 of the way then hover it and then in one quick motion lift it up an inch and then forcefully push/drop it down, works every time.
