Random email from coned that they’re ending the SmartCharge rebate program as of 12/31….

Claim they’re starting a new program, but no details and they say to throw away the tracking device.

doesn’t sound very good…. And I’d be super disappointed if I lost my charging incentive for the car!!!

my power bills and gas bills are already up like 20%!!

Time to look into variable power and a power wall battery to shift usage and take advantage of off-peak delivery rates.

In late 2020 I called PSE&G to see what programs they had for EV's. At the time not only did they have no incentives, I couldn't even get a second dedicated TOU meter for my EVSE. Instead I got solar, and not only do I have a fixed loan payment instead of increasing rates, the energy credits I get cut my costs in half compared to PSE&G's rates. In the meantime PSE&G has a new program: if you have the right smart EVSE they'll give you a whopping 2 cent per kwh discount if you charge overnight.

Get solar in 2023 while the 22% tax rebate is still around.

Enrolled into the new program. The app they make you use is a mess, not really indicating the correct hours of use.

In case you didn't see their updates, it's a $25 signup bonus after 3 months of use, 10 cents off per kWh charged off peak and $35 per summer month for avoiding peak charging.

I did notice one of my final days in December, SmartCharge recorded my DCFC charging as part of my typical charging usage on the old website. Not clear if this will be an issue going forward..

I like the new approach better. Rather pull data off ford api’s than have a device plugged into my car that I can’t actually verify what it’s doing

I’m pretty sure my data has been accurate.

They did send an email that a ton of features in the app don’t work yet and to ignore them. Seems like it was a last min hasty migration

Did you have to enter your FordPass login and password for this new app? If so that’s bad and can cause your Ford account to get locked. Especially if it’s Smartcar.

I’m totally blanking on what I did… but I do remember thinking “wow, they have an actual backend api connection to ford”

and fwiw my account is actually sort of locked out (I can login to the web site and app but api stuff won’t work) and this still worked… so it’s got to be different

For my chaegepoint integration, it definitely was a backend api as I had to authorize an app on their web site

I don't have ConEd, but in Michigan, DTE does two things. 1) They give a $500 rebate if you buy specific models/brands, because they're tying with the manufacturer for the DATA, not control. 2) They have a SmartCharge program with Ford, where they limit, or force charging, by changing the settings in the car remotely, through Ford. I assume it's an API, we don't provide any login info.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll look into installing a supported L2 and connecting to that instead.
@itzbilly are you being reimbursed by evenergy correctly. For November they sent me $1.71 for my 272 kWh of use . I am using a Juicebox 40 which they sent me an email in March of 2023 saying it was an approved charger . They are claiming it is a two week lag to get the information from Juicebox.

I would suggest looking into solar. I don't know NY's incentives, but in NJ you earn energy credits that you end up getting paid for, and there's still the federal rebate on buying the panels.

I financed my panels, and with the payments minus energy credits I end up paying about 8.5 cents a kwh any time of day - regardless of whatever crap PSE&G, Putin, or the rest of the fossil fuel industry decides to do. Once my panels are paid off I just have to pay $5 a month for my grid connection, which comes to 1/3 of a penny per kwh.

Hey, I stopped using SmartCharge since around October. Ford threatened to close my account because of the way SmartCharge was accessing their API. I reached out to SC and they promised to make changes to fix this and that I would "hear back soon" but I havent heard anything since before Thanksgiving. I've since disconnected my Fordpass account since I don;'t use a smart evse that can communicate with SmartCharge.
