I live in the mountains of West Virginia. Often the temperature varies from 30 degrees to 34 over the course of a couple miles, and on wet roads, that matters. A lot.
Ice can form at either outside temp so I think it would be safe to just assume there might be ice. Plus you get the snowflake icon in the cluster anyways.

Ice does not form if the outside temperature has not been below freezing. It will form if the roads are wet and the temperature drops below 32 Fahrenheit. So that's useful information to have.

The little snowflake is useless since it comes on even when temperatures have never even approached freezing. I grew up near Syracuse and live in the mountains of Appalachia. Don't try to teach me about snow and ice.

I guarantee you can find ice on the road when the ambiant temp is over 32. Ambiant temp is not equal to ground temp. If you want to argue new vs old ice then be my guess. Btw, Putting that much trust into a cheap ambient sensor is not very smart either.
