What a Difference New Tires Make -- Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires

OEM tires are not the same as that identical tire purchased at the tire store(virtually all vehicles -Toyota, Ford, GM, etc.).
The OEM tire has less than half the life of the real tire - less expensive for automobile manufacturer. They are not the same tire.
20,000 miles is about it for OEM tires. Time to purchase new tires.
No warranty on OEM tires.

Did you get wider ones too? The OEM 225 are way too narrow, when I get my MME (who knows when ) I will sell the OEMs and get 245 width immediately. I like PIRELLI SCORPION ALL SEASON PLUS 3 or Conti EXTREME CONTACT DWS06 PLUS

I went with the Conti's in 245 width. Night and day difference in ride and handling. You will lose about 7% range with these tires but well worth it.

I did not try on the OEM tire, but typically those treadwear warranties are for replacement tires purchased by the end user. It is also a pro rated warranty and the old tires have to be down at 2/32 before any consideration. I may be wrong on that and if so I am sure someone will chime in.

I've been buying tires at Discount Tire for over 25 years for 5 or 6 different cars. They told me that OE tires do not have a mileage warranty, only replacement tires bought after them. They have honored a mileage warranty for me on two or three occasions on the tires I have bought from them over the years.

The very first time this happened DT did not even charge for balancing, said it was included, that is no longer the case. The warranty has always been a discount on the new tires prorated according to the percentage of miles not realized on the worn out tires.

The general rule is that any automotive wheel can accept up to +20mm of tire width.

What has me worried is a AWD ER chewing through these HVJB's and that they're test muling users. Why can't they just build it 'overly robust' and call it a day. This isn't even a GT we're talking about. (I have the same car BTW).

I assume you're on the updated PowerUps (now with limp mode and warnings!)? But are you getting the warnings or limp mode? Or is it shitting out on a curve up/down PCH?

Side note, he now has a 50k warranty on the new tires. Have the milage recorded. Whoever mounted them will be able to prorate them later, because, well they'll need to be prorated.. lol

Oh yes, after the first box failed and bricked the car (this was before the updated software was out) the updated software does do its job of turning on the service vehicle soon light with the new error codes specifically for the HVBJB. It reduces the available power, but the car is still drivable so you can set up a time to get it into your dealer to have it fixed. I now carry a code reader in the car so when the SVS light comes on I can pull codes and see if it is related to HVBJB or not.

Oh good you'll have the cornering speeds up to be able to test the newest HVBJB with even greater loads. Are we taking predictions for how long the new one will last after this box for sticky rubber?

I've had Pilots on multiple vehicles over the years, and they're great tires, and I'm considering them for my MME.

I've not checked TireRack of late, but given the release of EV-focused tires, there's an opportunity for them (or someone) to add range impact to ratings for EV and non-EV tires.

The OEM's on my Premium are too slick IMHO but am hesitant to go with something too much "grippier" without knowing if I'll take a 3% range hit or a 10% range hit.

An easy way to tell is to use Tire Rack as a resource. Go to the tire you are looking at and lock on specs it lists the wheel sizes that size tire will fit. I believe the column marked meas. rim width is giving you the optimal width for that tire size

one caution I would advise you is as the load range go up you should actually lower the pressure to maintain the correct contact patch so a 255/50/19 107 on a Mach E should be inflated to 29psi. The 245/50/19 105 should be inflated to 35psi

I switched out the OEM Michelin Primacy A/S tires on my 2021 Premium 4X yesterday at 19,000 miles and installed a new set of the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires and boy what a difference that made. The ride is a lot smoother now and less bumpy than before and the corning feels a lot better. I may end up losing some range with these tires, but even if I do the improvement in ride and corning will be worth it.

The old Primacy's looked like this:

I did the same thing, switched out my Michelin summer tires. Can’t believe the difference, love those tires

Sorry to disagree with your personal experience, but IMO it is impossible there isn't a range penalty. These are not low rolling resistance tires, while the ones Ford put on are.

The penalty might be smaller for the GTPE because maybe those summer OEM tires are stickier than those on other models (such as the GT), but definitely there is a range hit. I doubt it is more than 10% and it might be closer to 5%, which could be hard to detect using the GOM.

BTW - using the GOM as validation probably isn't a very accurate way to verify the impact.

I switched from OEM Primacy to Pilot Sport All Season 4s on my premium 4x. I kept standard 225’s as well. I lost about 0.2-0.4 m/kWh on average. I got them during a change of season so I need to see efficiency during full summer, but it’s been pretty consistent with that loss throughout fall and winter.

I drive a bit more aggressively on back roads with the better tires… so that might impact my efficiency numbers a bit… ?
