I also have this issue when I’m wearing my sunglasses. The “watch the road” alert will beep and flash because the system won’t be able to detect my eyes. It’s really annoying ! I have two bad options: stop using my sunglasses to enjoy blu cruise (my eye doctor won’t be happy!) or stop using blu cruise and protect my eyes from the sun! FORD YOU HAVE TO FIX THIS ISSUE!
Get different sunglasses. The ones with the shiny reflective metallic don't work, but if you get a typical gray/brown tinted pair it will work fine. They need to be infrared transparent.

this really has nothing to do with sunglasses. If you read the original post, he tried with regular glasses, sunglasses and no glasses. The real issue seems to be the angle of his eyes to the infrared lights or the fact that he has narrow eyes, or perhaps the height of his head to the steering wheel which may be blocking the view of his eyes after he starts driving, The issue is repeatable and we timed it. It actually starts approximately 10 minutes after he starts driving. Ford responded and suggested we take the car in for a service check, which I doubt will resolve this issue, I rather think it is more of an engineering issue for people whose eyes cannot be seen from the infrared lights. However, we did try changing the height of the seat and adjusting the steering wheel as much as one can in a CA RT 1. Please do not suggest different sunglasses…… that is just not the issue. Thank you.

I’m sure you already considered this: I have a habit of unconsciously grasping the steering wheel with my right hand at 12 o’clock. When I do, it blocks the eye nanny and I get the warning.

Yes that is a good thought! He tried different positions because I thought it might be that as well…. I am bringing it in June 2nd and they will check all the updates etc, but I am still guessing he has a geometry problem. Guess it will make it easier to decide whether to pay for Blue cruise when the free time ends!

How tall is your husband? I'm only 6'2" and when I sit in a particular arrangement with the wheel tlited just the wrong way, I can cause the eye tracker to go wonky. And when I have my hands at the old recommendation of 10 and 2 I block its vision even when the wheel-eye geometry is correct.

That sounds right! He is 6’2” as well! he does drive mostly at 10 and 2 as well, but I had him try having both hands on the lower part of the steering wheel. I would guess if the infra red lights are near the far end of the bar 10 and 2 position would definitely block it. I think it is a matter of trying multiple adjustments. But he thinks it is a pain. It is also a bit of a pain as I just get in and go!

My bet is the 10-2 hand placement is getting in the way; moving to 9-3 works for me and is safer with the airbags.

Yes, and also make sure the steering wheel tilt is correct (flip lever down under the column to adjust). The little pod with the infrared camera above the wheel hub should be pointed at his face, not his chest.

Some bifocals and high power progressive lenses can also cause issues because they distort the camera’s view of the eyeball. In that case the solution is to switch to single vision glasses for driving which don’t have a near vision zone at the bottom of the lens.

Some drivers of Asian descent have reported issues with eye tracking systems due to eye width, and that’s been a difficult problem to solve
so far.

Hands and arms blocking the sensor has also been mentioned. I’m fine at 10 and 2, but people hold the wheel differently and may have an issue with hands in the top half. 12’o clock definitely won’t work.

What it comes down to is the camera in the wheel needs to see your eyeballs clearly, if anything is blocking it, distorting it, or the angles are wrong it won’t work.

I’ve noticed it gives me lots of warnings on bright days, where I’m probably squinting. I’ve also got the asian eyes going on.

if Ford had picked less obnoxious warning sounds maybe it wound’t be an issue.

incidentally, does it ever vibrate the steering wheel to draw attention? Thisnis what Honda’s alertness system did at one point.
