My husband and I drove from Santa Barbara to Sonoma yesterday In our 2021 CA RT 1 MachE. He does not drive it very much. The BlueCruise and Active Driving Assist works fine for me. However, after my husband drives for a few minutes, the warning for keeping your eyes on the road and all the alert sounds go off and he has to totally turn off driver assist. Kind of a pain not to use cruise control on the highway. He tried adjusting the seat, the steering wheel and taking off his sunglasses and it continued to happen. I looked for reports of something similar and did not see anything….. driving back tomorrow and will work on turning off blue cruise from software screen before he drives, but it seems strange that it just won’t work. He does have narrow eyes but I keep thinking it is more the angle of his eyes to the infrared sensors. ideas? Thanks!

I'm guessing there's an algorithm that needs to see X% of eyeball to determine if the driver is fully awake or if they are drowsy. Having narrow eye openings may be triggering that logic, tricking the car into thinking the driver is sleepy?

I would suggest a test where your husband drives normally, and see when it alerts, then focuses on keeping his eyes open as wide as possible and see if it doesn't alert, and you then have your answer.

It might require duct tape to hold his eyes open, but if that's the price to pay...

We have turned off BC because it makes the passenger nauseous. If you do this everything works except hands free.

From the OP's original post: "He tried adjusting the seat, the steering wheel and taking off his sunglasses and it continued to happen."

So, with or without sunglasses it doesn't work for him.

Hey there! If you send over a DM with your VIN and Ford dealer info, I can look into your Blue Cruise concern on my end!

I'm curious about what specifically BlueCruise does to make a passenger nauseous?

I've had passengers express they were uncomfortable with the idea of riding in the car while in hands-free mode, but there is nothing about the BC motion of car itself that would explain a physical feeling of nausea?

I find that BC operates better for me when I wear my polarized sunglasses. I get less nagging. I also find that the time of day, and how much sunlight is on my face has an effect on the amount of nagging I get.

It’s the side to side motion that makes her “sea sick”. The car tries to keep in the lane but ping pongs side to side slightly. If she watches the road is not as bad. If I hold the wheel, it’s as if BC is not on. So, it’s not on.

I also have this issue when I’m wearing my sunglasses. The “watch the road” alert will beep and flash because the system won’t be able to detect my eyes. It’s really annoying ! I have two bad options: stop using my sunglasses to enjoy blu cruise (my eye doctor won’t be happy!) or stop using blu cruise and protect my eyes from the sun! FORD YOU HAVE TO FIX THIS ISSUE!
