Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, but can UK MME’s use Tesla superchargers currently? If so, is there a cost benefit at all? I saw the recent story that Ford & Tesla have teamed up to allow all Fords from next year to use TSC’s, but not sure how that will be priced etc.
I think my 2021 model AWD er has the CCS plug, am I right in thinking that may be already compatible?
Thanks in advance to all you learned people out there.

You can use some Tesla chargers. If you download the Tesla app it will tell you which ones in there. You have to set up an account & a form of payment then you have to start & stop the charge through the app. The only issue i have found with them is you end up taking 2 bays out because of the length of cable so you may upset a few Tesla drivers ??

Thanks for the info Michael, much appreciated??
I do most charging at home, but got a few longer trips coming up where I’m going to need fast charging. Are the TSC any more expensive than others, do you happen to know?

I've read several articles on that and I believe Ford will be sending out adapters to all Ford EV owners. It certainly took a long time for the "second FOB" quandary--so, I'm not holding my breath. For some of you new owners, that's when the Mach E was sold with only one FOB. That was not a great look when you're selling 50 G+ cars.

One thing to look out for with the Tesla Superchargers - the rates per kWh vary depending on the time of day and if you have a subscription or not. Compared to other Ultra Fast chargers they are not always particularly competitive.

If you’re planning some trips you might want to have a look at PlugShare and “A Better Route Planner” apps. You can filter the speed of chargers you want (ie over 100kW) and be able to see the prices and number of stations at any given location. For me personally Tesla sites would be a last resort choice rather than one at the top of my list.

Re this conversation - We are talking about UK Tesla sites. We don’t need adapters here in UK & Europe as most vehicles all use the same CCS Type2 plugs ;)

You're in NJ. They're in the UK. Apples/Oranges.

I used Tesla SC quite a bit when my Mum was having cancer treatment at Addenbrooks nr Cambridge as the trumpington one is nearby, had a good experience apart from the two bay thing as we are the "wrong" way round for them. As said above the app tells you all, they have expanded the allowed network recently, and the price changes throughout the day, however I found it stays at the "starting" price i.e. if the price goes up at 4pm and you start at 3:55pm, you pay the lower rate for the whole charge. We're off to France in the car in a couple of weeks, so will be using the one at Eurotunnel to top up before we get on the train.

No, I am talking about US sites. According to these articles Ford inked a deal with Tesla for a complete changeover. Maybe I misread it--several times. Either way I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it.

LOL - yes and our point was we are discussing Tesla sites in the United Kingdom on a UK thread. So in the nicest possible way - while what you're saying is technically correct - it’s not at all relevant to this particular thread :)

Tesla SC at 44p/kwh seem to be cheaper than Ionity ... or have I read something wrong?

IONITY is still miraculously 29p/kWh if you are still using the Ford Charging Network in your trial (or have paid to extend it)

Non discounted price IONITY is 74p/kWh

Tesla 44p/kWh quoted in earlier post is peak rate charge if you have a subscription package (£10.99 a month) with them and at selected locations.

Their prices vary by site, time of day, and if you are a “Non Tesla Charging” subscriber or not. You have to be very alert to that before plugging in.

Normal rates to judge Tesla SC locations on is 53p/kWh off peak and 64p/kWh peak rate - which granted is still cheaper than IONITY standard rate. o_O

Why do they make it so complicated? ?

Yes I still have Ford Network, Ionity has just gone up to 36p per KWH, which I charged at yesterday. Still amazing value. Tesla 53-59p.
