Out driving this morning and all of a sudden the navigation screen goes blank and nothing works. Reached my destination and rebooted. No change lol. Did my shopping and switched on - screen looked different but worked. Lo and behold an update had downloaded - THE update - the one I have been eagerly waiting for (4.2.2.1) ie volume knob now controls the heater, seats etc as well as the audio - cameras etc now have icons. One happy fellah here.

Is update happening while driving a normal thing?

Doesn't seem very safe.

Yep the updates are a little odd in how Ford rollout, i recently had another update (6 dot something)and the wing mirrors defaulted back to not auto folding in or out. What is always in the back of my mind is if another update comes along and changes my default settings such as one pedal drive is turned off, my other half will end up rear ending someone!!!!!

This is why they should make it so you can manually update it. I dont' understand why they have done it this way, its like a lottery. Some people want the update sooner than others. Give them an option to manually check for updates when they are available and roll out out the updates later for those that don't care so much.

Agreed! I'm driving my car a lot, when its on the drive it should be connected to home wifi, I'd quite happily search for updates and install. But no, i have to wait until it randomly decides I can have one!

All you need for a manual update capability is a FDRS license (2 day or 30 day or 1 year... your choice), a reasonably capable Windows laptop, a power 12V supply and a Mongoose cable. The last two items are often available second-hand.

You have this option - it's the first toggle on the software update screen.

To ensure a smooth delivery of these updates we strongly recommend:

  1. Please check your ‘Automatic Software Updates’ setting. If you haven’t already done so, I recommend you switch this ‘on’. To do this select the vehicle icon on your SYNC 4A screen > Settings > System Updates > Automatic Updates and turn this ON. This will help ensure that your vehicle is always up to date and ready for future updates. If you choose to leave this option off, you will still be notified of each software update at which point you can accept or decline it. However, if you decline or defer a software update, or the notification expires, please note you will not receive any further updates until that update has been accepted.

This is of no help what so ever. This just enables the update to be installed once it's pushed through. I am talking about letting people manually updating the car to the latest version instead of Ford deciding when you get it. The last update I have had was Power-up 3.5.2.1 to prepare for the Alexa update this was back in June. It said the next update will arrive shortly, I have had none since.
I am currently awaiting 23-PU2001-PR-FX. I want an option to force it to look for this update and install it. I am several updates behind and I need to wait for each one to update whenever Ford feels like it. The way it is I could get tomorrow, next week or next year for all I know. I might not even get it at all.

One of the reasons for this is, as mentioned in one of the pages in that link I provided, the each year of car has different tech and different underpinning parts which have changed over the years of production, therefore rolling out the same update (when available) across all of the different versions of the car isn't possible.

for example - I've got a 21 AWD ER and am one of the last to get some of the newer sync layout buttons and the like, HOWEVER my car is also one of the ones which is "lucky" enough to have the auto boot etc. So if there was lets say a overall update I could force, but that update only covered newer cars without the auto boot, I could potentially give myself an issue.

So there isn't a "one size fits all" sequential update which covers all cars. When you THEN factor in that ford also have to adapt the updates to accomodate our roads and laws compared to the US , it's easy to see why there may not always be an update available.

It's certainly true that it appears that the new years of the Mach-e are getting more updates sooner, but they are coming from a more standard equipment setup and a higher version starting point when they left the factory - and more of the initial bugs with parts and tech have been sorted.

For further clarity, the very early MachE did have an issue not getting auto updates, but that's solved with a dealer visit (as was mine). After that, the updates should come auto when available.

In your case, you're in the same boat as me - the version you have right now is the latest version for YOUR CAR, not the Mach-e car overall. If you were able to download a manual update and install it there simply wouldn't be one for YOUR CAR as it stands. But, reading that forum post, it appears that we well be getting one shortly (fingers crossed)

Hope that helps.

The mirror folding has been a nightmare since my last update. I always set to fold, but results randomly change:
1- Doesn't fold
2-Folds, but doesn't unfold upon powering on
3-Operates normally - this stopped happening weeks ago

It's vert frustrating for many reasons, but also for security, as I can't tell if the vehicle is locked or not.
Has anyone dealt with this and how?

I'm really looking forward to that update! Based on my update history and time to update, I figure I am only 3 years away from getting it! Excited!
