Look, if you haven't already figured it out, calling Ford is just a complete waste of your time. They want to be helpful, they try to be helpful, but they just don't have the training or knowledge.

You're better off asking ChatGPT - as least you'll get a made up answer without the time on hold.
To be fair they’re helpful with existing information.

When you call a random call center and ask them to predict the future (when will I get X?), they will know nothing. Nor should they. Ford does at least an “ok” job of letting us know what’s coming. There doesn’t appear to be too much insider info that’s told to ALL their employees before us.**

**Yes, certain people working on certain projects know more than us. But NONE of those people will ever be answering phones in a call center.

Ron, you're exactly right - I mostly love the car, but they are absolutely unable to support it for the most part. I've driven it across country (LA to eastern Washington and LA to Miami) and enjoyed it, but when I needed help/info from Ford, it was mostly useless, except for some help with Phone as a Key. Even some dealers are unqualified. One offered an oil change.

Yeah, I won't be taking Ruby into the dealer for any BC updates, so if Ford can't deliver it to me before they expect me to make a decision on a premium service, I have very bad news for them. Your update rollouts, or lack thereof @Ford Motor Company, are killing any chance of seeing success in your add-ons business.

I have more faith in openpilot at this point, higher cost be damned.

But that is a one time cost for OpenPilot, right?

Thank you - and by extension everyone at this forum who provides useful information (and some who just provide funny comments).

I have now called again and was told by "Mary" in connected services that I will get the upgrade without any new hardware. She couldn't tell me when, so she sent me to the OTA department, which she said would have a date. They did not have a date, but said to call connected services.

Emma in the connected services department said it should have been updated already. She told me to call the dealer.

Dealer says $230 to update.

Final call: Ryan, in In Vehicle Technology said the only way to confirm that my car can be upgraded is to take it to the dealer and plug it in.

P.S. If it weren't for the empty frunk button promises, I'd be more confident in what I've seen posted here about the promised updates.
There is no need to pay the dealer $230. The updates are happening now. It's incremental and has gone much slower than Ford or any of us wanted but it has been happening.

Have you been receiving any PowerUps in your Mach E lately?

Coincidence? The car is parked 10 miles from me, and I just received the first update in quite a while: Power-Up 6.2.1 came through this morning after I posted here.

You're on your way. I'm at 6.8.0 and it's looking like we're getting closes to BC 1.3. I'm also in a 2021 Premium (FE).

Got a response from the dealership's service manager:

Hi Jonathan,

We would need to plug into your vehicle to see if you have the update. We will be more than happy to check it at no charge but if there is a update that would be $230.00.

Respectfully

Mike ...

Wow. Time for a new dealer, and maybe let the BEV team know this dealer is trying to cash in.

Actually that's no surprise. Most dealers will charge for doing updates for which they can't bill Ford. If there isn't a Recall, TSB, CSP, etc., with instructions on how to bill the work to Ford, it isn't a warranty item. It's an "owner wants" item.
