What is this horrible noise

I got home and plugged in the charger and the car is making a horrible banging/clicking noise. The noise seems to be coming from the front middle of the car. I first plugged it in to the charger in the heated garage but when I heard the noise I thought maybe it had something to do with the charger so I moved it outside and plugged it in to the charger out there but the same noise was happening. It has stopped making the noise and seems to be charging fine. I have never heard this noise before. Any thoughts on what it is? The battery was at 67% when I plugged it in and the temperature outside is -12c which is chilly but not that cold.

It’s the cooling shutters trying to open (just below the front bumper). Is there ice on them?

Thanks, I never thought to look at them. They are closed and I don’t see any ice on the outside but I put the car back in the garage so any ice will melt off. It was snowing a bit this morning while I was driving so it could be ice.
