Ford are you reading this? Please introduce a PIN code requirement. If you forget the pin just text or email the owner to reset it. Or MFA it with a users phone. Enough is enough already. 1 stolen car is too many.

You have to be within a few feet of the door with the key to open the car and the key has to be inside to start it.

People can’t break in using your key if your keys are in your house.

Now as far as how they steal these cars without the key? I dunno.

It is pretty ridiculous they can easily master reset and lock the owner out of tracking it. Ford should have more security than that.

Depends.

I would prefer the prevention route.

Even if I could track my stolen car, I’m not going to confront the thieves in Oakland, and I doubt the OP would have much luck with the police tracking it either unfortunately.

Might be different depending on where you live. Around here it’s more likely teenagers joyriding and the police aren’t quite as busy luckily.

There was a dealer item that I purchased with my GTPE called RecovR. It is similar to Lojack but isn't tied to the vehicle electrical system. And you can take it with you to your next car.

We don't have PAAK in the UK so rely on the key. We even don't have Mustang keys and have been given bog standard Fiesta keys. The difference? The Mustang key is always transmitting a signal so the car knows when you are close to it. The Fiesta key stops transmitting a signal when no movement is detected for a certain length of time. Obviously it starts to transmit again when you pick it up to go to the car.

After researching this whole key fob range extender process, I am rather frustrated that Ford, and other car manufactures have not done something about this. Like implementing some type of 2FA/MFA, or something!

I keep my car in my locked garage in the middle of my 25 acre home. My German Shepherd sleeps next to the MME. My insurance company should pay for the dog food. It looks like a typical urban problem that I don't worry about here.

if theves master reset my MME I can still track it as long as they don't find my second tracker from Copenhagen. In a test it won against others. It is GPS based and the battery lasts for about 4 years, price is fair at 125 EUR (Dec. 2022).

Yes, Ford certainly has to improve the key data send when the key is not in use! Use 2FA!
Other option could be the mandatory need to enter a cetain code -set by yourself to keep it in mind- in order to master rest the car. As already mentioned, a additional simple 4 digit passcode which you can use as an option would provide some additional personal security. These options could easily be added via OTA.

Ford, add some more security a.s.a.p. to your MMEs!

Here in Germany EVs do not get stolen that often due to range fear. If you have an ICE you stop at the station and fill the tank within 5 minutes and take of again, with an EV you have to wait quite some time.
