So I did a quick search for a used premium AWD 2022 for a member who got their car stolen recently.

In a 500 mile radius there were……. 3 for sale.

I figured, well, maybe it’s a fluke, searched 500 miles from me……. Found 2.

And none cyber orange.

But within 500 miles there were 792 new 2023 premium AWD.

In fact, there is only ONE 2022 premium AWD cyber orange listed for sale in the entire country:

https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/inven...2&entitySelectingHelper.selectedEntity=d2990#

So it begs the question- where are all the used Mach Es at? I thought the used ones were supposedly hard to sell??

No-one wants to sell them because the prices being offered are so low. I have a 2022 premium standard range with 6,000 miles in mint condition. I still owe $43,000 to Ford but was offered only $27,000 by a dealership to trade it in on a new 2023 model. Carvana and Kelly Blue book offered $31,000.

The de-contenting of newer models may play a small part. I use the hands-free trunk almost daily and I wouldn’t want to lose that.

But the value is the #1 reason. Especially for those with a loan that’s likely upside down.

I recalled that Carvana did not even give an offer for my MME. $31,000 is higher than what I thought but it still hurts to see such a low offer.

Autotempest can search from many listing platforms.

Plenty of used in New England, just can't be picky on color. Used rebates really impact pricing, if you qualify in Mass you can score a used Bolt with a new battery for $4,500. No other EV is competing with that used.

Autotrader shows 15 within 50 miles of my location in the DFW area.

I agree with the other posters here about owners hanging on to their MME due to the value of their car. The one thing I don't like about my MME is the rough ride. I would be very interested in moving up from my Premium to a GTPE to get the magna-ride suspension, but I would get so little for mine, it just doesn't make sense. I can live with the ride on mine for at least a couple more years until the extended service contract runs out. At that point I will decide if I want to keep rolling with it or move into something newer.

Maybe? But that would increase demand for the used ones which should help prices.

The extremely low volume of used ones on the market was a bit of a shock. If someone wants a premium cyber orange…… good luck finding one near you!

When I did a search for used Mach Es, I was honestly expecting thousands.

For example, nationwide search of 2021-2023 used GTs…… 318.

Narrow to 2021- 57
DMG- 6
My car- 2021 GTPE dark matter grey- 1.

There is literally only one used 2021 GTPE dmg for sale in the country.

I reallly really didn’t think that my car would be hard to find nor “rare.” Oh, and that ONE? Reported as a lemon. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/inven...2990&zip=94501#listing=379017305/NONE/DEFAULT

So there isn’t a single one of my car for sale right now!

Car loans are always "up-side-down"! Cars are not appreciating assets! Cars decline in value as they are used up! That's normal!
I know this is a rather harsh and therefore unpopular thing to say - if you need to borrow money to buy a car, you’re probably buying a car that you cannot afford.

EDIT: Of course this doesn’t apply to zero percent interest loans as some uber pedantic person pointed out below.

I have a pristine 2021 Job 2 GT Performance Edition with currently just 11k miles on it. Got it for a year ago for $49 out the door with an extra year of Ford warranty.

New GT PE are being sold for an eye watering $70k. I would be lucky to get $40,000 for my vehicle that has practically remained the same in 2023 except LFP batteries, considered significant because they can be charged 100% daily (myth or not I don’t know). Still, for someone looking for a low mile GT Performance, they save not $5k, not $15k, but almost $30k for the same car, yes, with 1.5 years of less warranty. But the biggest HVBJB issue is now a recall and the car otherwise is fairly risk free.

So maybe there is just NO demand. People who bought their GTPE in 2021 won’t sell because of bad resale value and that the car might just be going great so why sell? And what are we gonna replace it with? Solterra? Another possibility is that Ford didn’t produce a whole lot of these to begin with. Their over production could have happened starting mid-2022.

And new ones won’t sell because the price is outrageous.

I think - If everyone wanted to buy a GTPE, used ones AND new ones would sell like hot cakes. People with budget for new will go for new. And people who want a GTPE but don’t want to pay more will go for an extra year of CPO and settle on a 2 year old car.

Right now, if you buy new, the loan is 0%. You'll be an idiot not to take out a loan even if you can pay cash.

New GTPE are around $55k after the price cuts. Anything that has the ER battery like your GT does not have the new LFP battery yet, just the standard range battery.

I am talking about the people whose loans went “upside down” referred above, they clearly weren’t at 0% I can tell you that.

If the loan is 0%, then the point I am making above is moot and you already knew that even before you started typing a reply but if you didn’t know, I am not talking about zero interest loans. Heck I’d be the first person in line if there was a 0% loan. :)
