I agree that it’s a bit mind boggling that Ford hasn’t implemented some of the seemingly basic features despite 3-4 years on the market.

1)Lack of charging speed and battery temps on the drivers display is probably the biggest offender.

2)Batter preconditioning. I am very happy that this has been added but the implementation is somewhat half baked. For example, they offer pre-conditioning when routing to a charger using the built in navigation yet there is zero indication to the driver that anything is happening or that the function is even working. No tiny warm battery icon, no message saying “battery conditioning for fast charging”. I also really dislike that it seems like it may technically be a subscription feature due to to having to use the navigation. My navigation subscription just expired, does that mean I lose all ability to precondition my battery? I don’t know because the car won’t tell me if it’s preconditioning.

Ford, please give us information and a manual precondition button.

3) camp mode/pet mode. I know I there is a method that acts as a work around where I can turn off shutdown timer, manually lock the doors from the outside, etc. however even if I turn off the shutdown timer, the setting doesn’t save to my profile, so I have to do it every time. There is also no nice display showing the cabin temp and notifications to others that climate is on and my pet is safe. I don’t want to risk broken windows from honest bystanders trying to rescue my pet if they mistakenly think they are in danger. I also don’t trust a workaround method with the life my pet , especially if I can’t monitor them or control the cabin temp from my phone app

4)preconditioning battery for departure. Yes I can set a departure time schedule and enjoy and use that functionality. I would also like the ability to have a single push button that does that without having to set a departure time every time I want to precondition my battery outside of my normal morning commute or pre planned schedule.

With all that being said, I do want to give recognition to the Ford team for being the only legacy automaker that has consistently delivered OTA over the last 3 years that have tangibly improved the vehicle and ownership experience. I got BlueCruise 1.0 via OTA (still waiting on 1.3 though), I got the new user interface via OTA, I received recall updates that meant I didn’t have to bring my car to the dealership to get addressed.

I guess what I’m hoping for is more communication from Ford on their actual software “pipeline” that we hear so much about. Perhaps addressing some of the small but quite impactful feature additions that most owners have been asking for over the last several years?
Ford is great with customer engagement in some ways but has improvement opportunities in others.

Good post OP and agree wholeheartly. While I am even further away from American than Canada is to it, the troubles of separate markeds is the same. Heck, we even lost features when American got addition features (lost the ability to navigate to Tesla chargers which are open in Europe, which means no precondition without doing some gymnastics in the NAV to get somewhat working).

Secondly, precondition button: shut up and do it already Ford. I live in Norway, without it (say when the NAV refuses to navgiate to Tesla chargers) you are lucky if you even get half the charging speed half the year.

Lastly, why not have two cluster displays? One "standard" where the people who love the static grey car icon can fullfill their dreams, and one "custom". This custom area could have a pre-grid pattern where you could slot in various information such as icon for precondition, charging speeds, consumption (positive or negative depending) and various other small stuff. Most other cars have different cluster displays depending on either drive mode or preference from the users, why not have that in a car that costs way more than these?
