Apple Maps "I don't know where you are"

When my wife's iPhone is connected to the Mach-e and we connect to Apple Maps and try to navigate somewhere, the Siri voice says "I don't know where you are." I googled this phrase and the suggested fixes were to "Check Map Permissions: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Maps, and ensure it is set to "While Using the App or Widgets" and toggle "Precise Location" on." and ensure bluetooth and WiFi are on. Her phone already had these settings set up. Does anyone have any other suggestions since she would like to go places when I (and my Android phone) am not in the car.

Has your wife tried selecting a route in Maps on her iPhone before getting in the car rather than using Siri once in the car?

Siri is Apple's voice "assistant" similar to Amazon's Alexa and Arthur Clarke's HAL.

If my wife preprogams a route before getting into the car, it does seem to work, but that sort of defeats the purpose of voice commands, hands free operation and in car navigation.

Siri is definitely not in the same league as HAL I think of Siri as a glorified reverse “speak and spell”

Make sure you don’t have your phones too close together. Mine was going weird whenever my wife’s iPhone was nearby.
Seems to be okay after a few years but she likes to drop it besides mine. As soon as I put it up on the dash it was fine.
