We are all making assumptions, so I’ll make a simple one too. That is my thought exactly, but honestly I strongly suspect that's indeed what happened. I noticed that he never responded to people who said, "I hope you're both alright."
Cars have reflectors in addition to lights. An alert driver should (hopefully) see the reflectors and take evasive action(s) such as braking and changing lanes. IIRC the OP in the other thread said he hit the stopped car at 70MPH, meaning that he either didn't slow at all (i.e., didn't see it), or had been traveling faster.
This is a tragedy regardless of the details and who is at fault. (I lost my mom in a car crash, so I get it.) But if this is the same guy as the is-this-totaled post, that's crazy.
We are talking about an interstate highway, near a major city, NOT late at night.
Likely lots of traffic.
If you’re going highway speeds, and ANY car in front of you saw the stopped car and changed lanes, you definitely wouldn’t see the stopped car before it’s too late.
I’ve hit road debris on the highway during the daytime while being completely alert for this exact reason. Someone in front changing lanes to avoid it and there you go.
Either way, we don’t know the circumstances except a few details.
Another detail- the Mach E driver isn’t in jail. If someone dies and you’re found at fault, that would be a different story for sure.
