Yep - and there’s another one to follow it too.

All the details are here (as always) ….

Hey ho - another UK update today. This time though I firstly received a warning announcement of the pending update at 01.00 hrs tonight which also gave me the option of downloading immediately provided that I exited the car etc. As I had just parked for shopping I opted to install right away as it would only take 10 minutes. When I returned 20 minutes later it was all completed and everything still worked so thank you Ford.

Hi,

So my car has only just updated to 4.2.1, I have only had the car for a couple of weeks. If I connect the car to my house WiFi does it speed the download of updates? As looking at the posts It seems to be far behind.

Thanks to Wonky_Donkey I know my car was built in April of last year so I guess its been sat somewhere since then and Feb.

Any ideas will help.

Hi,
Any ideas will help.
Sadly there is no silver bullet for this. It’s a lot of just luck, unless it comes up and tells you it fails for x reason, which started in the 6.x’s until you at least get 5.2.3 you’ll be in the darkness about what might be going on. Even the 6’s arnt reliable. I got my first update in 3 months the other day.

Dealer has next to no control over those updates.
Updates that take the car 15 min to install take the dealer several hours. It’s a terrible deployment for a dealer to deal with. Dealers avoid pushing updates as much as possible because it usually ties up the 1 or 2 computers that could push the updates, for hours. And usually 1 module craps out or doesn’t like it so everything gets updated again and fingers cross.

Hello. I just joined the forum and this is my first post. My software updated overnight last week. Some of the user interface changes seem quite good - bigger buttons etc., but unfortunately the sat nav no longer loads - "Navigation is not functioning correctly. Please visit your dealer for service". And the onboard manual shuts itself down after 6 seconds. Both these are in the hands of the customer experience team who have advised me not to take it to the dealer as they will fix it centrally, presumably with an over-the-air update. Some release notes would have been helpful too. It's a 22 plate standard range model. Ho hum.

Received this update early this morning - car still running with no obvious problems so that's good. Update looks right handy for our climate.

Service departments for both space and salaries are expensive. OTA updates which need technician support should have a separate arrangement. Certified updaters should have all of that stored on a very capable laptop, as well as a strong internet connection (5G enough). Fix two or more cars at the same time by appointment on or near the location of customers. Goal, do a good job quickly, get costs down to about $35 per hour per car. I am not interested in becoming an expert in keeping my car going. I expect the thing to just work, with a minimum of inconvenience on my part.

I got this too, and all OK afterwards. What does it actually mean though? Can find many details to say HIW it will actually work differently. I still find it odd that you can't have air just coming into the car without having the blower on.
