Sometimes when I shift to reverse, this warning has been popping up:

“Rear Brake Assist not available. See manual.”

Typically when I’m reversing it’s because I’m parking so I usually don’t pay any attention to it. But I’ve cleaned my cameras and I noticed that it’s been getting more frequent nowadays. I don’t really rely on it so it doesn’t bother me but I am worried there is some latent issue that I’m not addressing.

It's normal to see that after some OTAs or after clearing codes. If you drive the car in a straight line without your hands on the wheel for several seconds it will learn steering center and clear the error.

If you are getting it everyday then you should schedule service.

I get that message every time a door is opened if the car is in reverse (and stopped - of course) . EX: My wife gets out of the car as I am preparing to back into the garage.

I assume I get that message because there isn't an error code to warn you about backing up and ripping the door off on the garage wall. ;-)

I have a narrow garage door and I back in to park. I turned off the rear brake assist long ago as it would sometimes jam on the brakes if it thought I might hit something, which I have never done. With it turned off, I get that message every time I put it in reverse.

I tried what you said in the parking lot earlier today and now the warning hasn’t come up since. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Thank you Lee, I had asked Dealer to fix it as it's due to go back for things requested on a recent service that were not carried, the paint and bodywork check for one that they also missed on the first service which caused me months of arguing with Ford to get some very expensive repairs done thousands to replace both front doors! I was informed by the service manager that the extra work would be done FOC as agreed but to fix the fault would be chargeable as vehicle is no longer in warranty hence my search on the forum.

I will let you know after I have tried your fix tomorrow if it also fixes mine naturally if dealers know this only the very best would let a customer know.

Many thanks, Mel.
