Has anyone successfully sound proofed their Mach E from road noise. Thoughts on this so far? It's sticky padded materials and thought about sealing the plastic and edge.

Just curious, have you done any tests to determine where exactly the noise is coming from before trying these mods? There’s an official TSB (or alternatively, diy hacks) for wind noise if that’s a concern.

Also, what kind of road noise are you trying to eliminate? The lighter tire/wind noise you hear on smooth highways, or the more rumble-y kind that’s much more apparent over cracks and potholes on bridges and local roads?

I just traded in my 2019 I-Pace for a 2023 MME. Funny enough, when we test drove it, we compared with decibel meter, and the MME was 1-2 DB quieter at highway speeds. I think I got the clue to check from Bjorn Nyland's test results.

Depends on the noise.

Two ways to reduce noise-

1. reduce vibrations by adding weight. That’s the sound deadening material.

2. reduce the cause of the noise. This could be filling gaps that cause wind or changing tires to reduce road noise, etc

I would first determine which noises you are trying to reduce and start there.

@markboris found pretty much all of the noise ingress points in his car and insulated those places. Search for his posts about audio systems and subwoofers. ??

I can tell you that little tip about the screen rubber, the rubber that goes around the screen on your window at home near the mirrors, that totally has quieted down the wind around my windows.

That's doing a whole lot of nothing. Need to focus on the doors and areas around the wheel wells as well as in the trunk area behind the plastics.

I’d like to give it a try. What did you change, and where?

I just added this little 10 1/2 inch piece of screen retainer rubber on each

Thx Jerry. So, just go to a hardware store and ask for “screen retainer” rubber strip? Squeeze it in m the groove?

That's definitely the easier way to go probably. I used painters tape and put black silicone caulking in there and then removed the tape on either side of the groove. You can't tell. It def helped with the wind noise, but overall, the wind noise from the front window areas are still bad compared to my previous cars.

It's called spline material. Our local Ace Hardware sells it by the foot. Get the thinnest they've got as it comes in different diameters.

I suppose any home improvement I ordered mine on Amazon and it came with like two little tools and 32 feet of this stuff for like eight bucks.

The little roller tool I would not use that to put it in. I just use my fingers that way you don’t scratch any of the plastic and the other little pic. That’s just if you want to take it back out you can just put it in the end and pull it out real simple just don’t push it too far cause it kind of disappears.

Much appreciated. Does anybody have experience with putting tape along the top edge of the windshield? That’s a significant groove; I recall that earlier Teslas had quite a bit of turbulent noise at that location. (A friend with a model 3 reported my MME is much quieter on the road.)
