Summer is right around the corner and as I am making plans for travel this Summer to Florida, Atlanta, Colorado and California.

I realized how much more comfortable I am traveling across the nation thanks to driver assist technologies and Tesla Supercharging network being available recently.

Currently I have the following items I always carry with me. Tesla A2Z Typhoon Level 3 DCFC adapter, Tesla Level 2 Destination adapter (Hotels / Shopping Centers / Parking Lots), Portable charger and RV Park / Camping ground adapter. For the Level 2 adapter you will want to dial down the amperage to 80% of the breaker you are currently using by code.

I have also shared the tools like ABRP, Plugshare and Tesla Find US that I use to plan my road trips so I am familiar with the best / reliable chargers are and try to plan out my stops for food / restroom / hotels where a charging station is also located. I like to multitask where I can and save time. As they always say Proper Planning and Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance.

Feel free to use the below links or discount code "FORD" to save on products sold on A2Z website.

A2Z Typhoon Pro Tesla Supercharger Adapter

TYPHOON PRO | NACS DC CHARGERS to CCS1 Adapter | 500A | 1000V | DC | 12 Months Warranty

J+ BOOSTER 2 Bundle Set Heavy Duty TOUGH Portable Level 2 EV charger | 25ft - Waterproof & dirtproof (IP67), 240 volt electric vehicle (EV) charging station with flexible amperage settings up to 40 amps

Both the MME and the Lightning limit 120V charging to 12A. The TT-30P should be used for trickle charging at campgrounds to maintain charge.

Camping Ground / RV Park Adapter - Parkworld 885378 EV Adapter Cord NEMA TT-30P to 14-50R (ONLY for EV or Tesla use, NOT for RV) (1.5FT)

This post and future posts may contain links to affiliate website, and we may receive a commission for any purchase made by you on the affiliate website. Our affiliates include GoAFFpro and Shareasale.

You can use Plugshare to map out CCS charging stations along your route and also use Tesla Find Us to locate Magicdock chargers which have built in adapter to go from NACS to CCS / Tesla Superchargers which require Level 3 DCFC NACS to CCS adapters like A2Z Typhoon.

If you need one ASAP you can always order the A2Z Typhoon Level 3 DCFC adapter using the forum discount code "FORD", one of the most popular adapters currently being used Mustang Mach-E owners, by F-150 lightning owners and Rivian owners.

In addition, you can save further by purchasing a level 2 adapter bundle using the drop down options as well. This adapter is used with Tesla destination chargers commonly found at hotels / shopping center / parking lots.

The level 2 Stellar adapter will pay for it self overtime by avoiding an expensive fast charge on the road every night while you sleep at the hotel with Tesla destination charging.

You can use the same Tesla Find Us link to locate Tesla Level 2 destination chargers.

Finally I love to use ABRP to plan out my trips in detail.

Good luck on your planning and have a blast on your road-trip.

Hope that helps you with your Summer road-trip planning.

You can get the below on your desktop or download the App on your phone.

I hope everyone will share pictures of their summer road trip travel where you create precious memories with your family, friends and pets.

Feel free to share even pictures as simple as your vehicle charging at a Tesla station while you let your dog out for a walk or as fancy as taking a professional picture of your Mach-E using Niagara Falls as a backdrop ;).

Would this adapter work with Ford mobile charger?
Here is a good thread on the Ford mobile charger and campsite charging.

Both the MME and the Lightning limit 120V charging to 12A. The TT-30P should be used for trickle charging at campgrounds to maintain charge.

Looked for cable length on J-booster. Didn't find anything on your website.

I also saw that there are multiple adapters available for it. But didn't see a nema 14-30

That would be a nice portable EVSE for charging from an F150 Powerboost with the 7.2KW ProPower onboard.

Here is the info I got from A2Z EV website.

looks like 25 ft total length and 23 ft cable and comes with NEMA 14-50 and 5-15.

Hope that helps. It’s a solid, powerful and tough portable charger.

J+ BOOSTER 2 Bundle Set | 25ft

  • Ready to use, no installation required with included NEMA 14-50 and 5-15 adapters. Included wall bracket with mounting hardware is easy to install at home (no electrician required). Additional adapters for NEMA 6-50, TT-30, 5-20, 5-15, and 6-15 outlets available (sold separately)

Does anyone know if Ford gets the same charging benefits like Tesla owners? A Tesla owner told me if they charge at night or on the slow chargers they pay less?

Tesla owners get a discounted rate. You can get that same rate by paying $12.99 per month. Sign up the morning of your trip, then immediately downgrade, and it takes effect in 30 days, whihc is the same as Electrify America (except theirs is $7).

Some Tesla chargers have the same rate 24/7. Others vary rate by time of day, and I've seen 4 periods of time.

Thanks for all this. But...

I don't understand this. TT-30 is 120V. But 14-50 is supposed to be 240V. There's no transformer in this item, so does it just put the wrong voltage out on the 14-50 end?

Here is a good thread on the Ford mobile charger and campsite charging.

Both the MME and the Lightning limit 120V charging to 12A.

You will be limited in charging speed.

its a good option if you want to be able to trickle charge your Mach E at a campground.

Here is a good thread on the Ford mobile charger and campsite charging.

From the sounds of it, you will want an EVSE like J+ Booster that can lower the current to 24A to use the NEMA TT-30P at the RV park.

Spent some time on this. The TT-30 is 120V and the MachE won't take more than 12Amps at 125V anyway. So, there's no advantage over a normal 120V (level 1) plug.

100% correct .

Both the MME and the Lightning limit 120V charging to 12A.

It’s a good backup option to have if you’re limited to available outlets

I added additional details to the original post.

Enjoy your weekend.

Thanks.

One plug adapter you might want to get is for NEMA 14-30P. Nema 14-30P is an outlet commonly used for dryers, it's 240V but only 30Amps. With your J+ EVSE you can set it to 24Amps to use this plug, so you could get a 14-30P to 14-50R adapter I guess.

BUT people with the Ford Mobile Charger need to go another way. The Ford Mobile Charger with the 14-50 "tail" will draw 32 amps, which is too much. So, instead, they can use the 110V "tail" but put 240V on it using an adapter like this https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09YN7FNQB...6OA2UO0X&psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it . Then, the Ford Mobile Charger will limit it to 12Amps because of the "tail" they've attached, but it will be double the speed of L1 charging because it's 240V.

My brother has a 14-30P on the outside of his house labeled "TESLA" on the panel. He really should switch the receptacle for a 14-50P, if the wires are big enough to support 50Amps (I think they are). But, in the meantime, this is an easy and cheap adapter to carry around.

This thread showcases the highlighted (btw otherwise very nice) portable EVSE as well as the Ford OEM EVSE. They both use proprietary whip connectors.

I happen to have an older Nissan / Panasonic auto-voltage-switching EVSE which has a common NEMA L6-30R locking connector... so any whip with any 240V plug can be attached.

Let's just call it "vendor lock" ?

The 10-30R is probably more common in areas like campgrounds. My co-worker’s duck club trailer is in an RV park and there are a couple of 10-30R outlets for each trailer. I purchased a Tesla Mobile EVSE for use there since it automatically downrates based on the mains pigtail that’s plugged into it (12, 16, 24, or 32 amps). I have a Tesla to J1772 adapter for the other end. ??
