On.Did he test with TC on or off for the first three test?
I wouldnāt say that. Theyāre one of the very few channels that does these type of slip tests, and it was good too see the results. To be fair, Iāve watched a lot of them and the MME didnāt do any worse than most crossovers.14:11 of mehh...
That would be true if there were 4 motors, but there are only 2. That means itās just like any ICE vehicle with an open differential. It has to rely on traction control to apply brakes to the wheel thatās slipping. Most similar systems (ICE and BEV) perform similarly in this test. You have to get into more robust 4WD systems geared for off-road to perform substantially better. For electric cars that should be able to send power to specific wheel I would say Iām not impressed that both models couldnāt get unstuck from the 3 wheel slip test at the end.
Oh right I was assuming the inner working differently. That would be true if there were 4 motors, but there are only 2. That means itās just like any ICE vehicle with an open differential. That may help in a vehicle with a multi-gear transmission by forcing it to stay in a low gear. But in the MME, the L setting just applies more regenerative braking when lifting off the accelerator (assuming 1PD is off). That would not help with this test. The one thing I would have done though was put it in L and not Drive. Most drivers don't realize that by putting in L you send more torque to the wheels and it'll help you get out. Adding more throttle is now the way to get out unless your tires are garbage. Also if the tires were winter tires i think you could get out in the 3 wheel slip test.
I would like to see him adjust for some of the variables he mentioned, e.g. tires. Also even though he seemed impartial, I would really like to do one of these tests blinded (although not sure how to do that)starting out with two cars that have not been put through the test before, doing it a few times. There is some learning/finessing involved on the part of the driver and perhaps the vehicle itself. MME might not have done as well on his test as the MY but viewing it, all I keep thinking was that it sure looks sharper āboth inside and out! Iāll still take the MME.I wouldnāt say that. I would say the results showed that the MME and MY would be about equivalent in a real word situation. If your wheels are stuck, it doesnāt matter if it takes a second or two longer for the other wheels to get you out.I would like to see him adjust for some of the variables he mentioned, e.g. tires. It wouldnāt have mattered. He actually did try unbridled in the last test. It likely just comes down to the algorithms used in the traction control systems. It has to figure out whatās going on by spinning the wheels to know where to apply the brakes so power is redirected to the wheels that arenāt spinning. In terms of the MME taking longer in all the tasks, would the tip in tuning on the engaged drive mode have any impact on time? Would it have been quicker if it was in unbridled, which has a more aggressive tip in?
