I appreciate this surprisingly technical and specific update from the official Ford account. The candid explanation of the difficulty of updating multiple modules as well as the specific version number included in the post is what I'd like to see more of. I hope the frustration of some owners doesn't turn you back to only generic marketing-speak. The more technical you can get (probably later in the post after the summary for non-nerds) the more excited us nerds get about using this amazing hardware/software you've created.

Personally I hated driving long distances, but BlueCruise has converted me into an avid explorer. The me from 5 years ago would not believe I'm now able to relax hands-free doing 75 on the highway, so thank you!

Based on your praise for detail and candor, I went back and read the first post, thinking I must have missed something. I don’t think I did.

Ford says…

Previously, we shared we were starting to roll out the software package to enable BlueCruise 1.3. This software update is complex. As we shared previously, it is a large package that requires several sequential updates to multiple system modules within the vehicle, and as a result takes multiple updates to successfully deliver the package.
As Ford acknowledges, this is not new information. We’ve known this for over a year.

Ford continues…

We made the decision to pause the rollout to meet the level of quality we strive for so that customers have the best experience possible with the newest version of BlueCruise.
This is marketing speak for “something went wrong, but we’re not going to tell you what happened.”

Next Ford says…

Now, we are pleased to share that the final update to enable BlueCruise 1.3 is starting to roll out to customers starting with model year 2022 Mustang Mach-E. This will be a staggered rollout by model year. We will have more to share once deployment starts for additional model years.
This is about the only useful detail Ford added. And it is a slap in the face for 2021 early adopters.

Finally, Ford says…

Please be on the lookout for the software update labeled as: IPMA-24.204.8.27.
They shared a software number. So what? We’re either going to get the update or not.

No information on why rollout was paused FOR A YEAR. No information on why 22s and 23s go to the front of the line. No information on what happened to 1.4.

Wait, can I feel personally spited too? I'm in the truly forgotten cohort of Job 2 '21's. We got Blue Cruise 1.0 from the word go, but since we're not Job 1'ers, we don't get any love.

Edit: Sorry, this was meant as a light-hearted comment, but it comes off wrong.

Wut. 2021 owners are earlier adopters than 2024s. By [checks math] three years.

Putting the 22s and 23s ahead of us in line is insulting. There’s no semantics around that.
For that to be true, Ford would have specifically chosen to update a 2022 before a 2021 out of lack of respect for the 2021.
Or put another way, the effort to update the 2021 was identical to the 2022, and Ford chose the 2022 just to stick it to the 2021 owners.

It felt silly just typing that. ?

Sorry you feel that way. The typical post from the Ford account is "Hey we have some new stuff coming your way, get excited. " No timeline or details provided.

I feel them saying "this stuff is hard, but we managed to get it rolling out. Look for this specific update number so you know if you've received it or not" is a huge improvement from previous updates.

Would I like more detail? Of course, I can never have enough. Is this a step in the right direction? Yes, that's why I commended them.

Are those the only options? I don’t think they are. Mayyyybe there were more 22s coming up on a financial decision point as to whether to re-up subscriptions. The 21s already had to make that choice by end of 2023. Which, if true, means Ford put money ahead of doing right by its early adopters.

Now, I don’t have evidence of that. Just like you don’t have any evidence that it is technically more challenging to update a 21 versus a 22.

We don’t know, because Ford hasn’t explained.

But that’s the point. Ford didn’t provide any more detail than they did a year ago. Other than a software number - who cares? - and that the 22s go first for an unexplained reason - insulting.

You didn’t get 3 years for $600? I thought all the 21s got that.

Unfortunately, my Mustang failed to update, and I can't force it to try again.

Same thing, read the OTA update thread (failed update vs not completed). Anybody with experience as to how long it takes for them to send the update again? I'm in the boonies for the week, would that have something to do with why it didn't complete? Am I SOL?

I have no update options available to me. I received 3 years of BC with the purchase (8/21/21 build date, but didn't receive vehicle until 11/29/21 because it got caught in an 8-week chip shortage). I've looked in both Ford Pass and on Ford.com and both show that my "trial" is still active until 11/28/24, with no option to purchase extended services. I'm assuming that I'll get some offers when I'm within 60 days of my trial expiring.

So no, not all '21's have had to make a decision yet - I think that was only offered to Job 1's. Like I said, I'm in the forgotten cohort of Job 2 '21's. I'd likely take the $600 for 3 years if they offered it to me. I've done enough road-tripping with the car to really appreciate BC on a long, highway trip.

I guess the first adopters have to suffer their fate and realize that Ford doesn't care about them
and sadly it screws them over in the long run since most of those early adapters conquest customers meaning they stole them from another brand. This is the same group that will say FU if you screw them over and move on afterwards.

As much as I’d like to say I love it, I’m disappointed . I have to say it still disengages frequently on busy SoCal freeways as another driver had previously stated. It doesn’t “cancel” suddenly as it used to, as it was quite frankly dangerous at times , but it goes from “hands free” to hands on even more frequently than before. As soon as I drive away on calmer freeways it seems to hold up a lot better and it is indeed smoother, no more ping ponging and no more jerking at stop n go traffic. Lane changing works really well. All that being said, I’ll see myself using it on long drives, not so much on local commutes as i was hoping for
