Back in the spring when I was doing some research before purchasing our Mach-E, I came across a thread on here (or other mach-e forum) about local member that was making a kit for the moonroof.

I am trying to find this kit but my searching is failing.

The thread was about person who made and sold insulation kits Tesla's moonroofs already and was looking for some local Mach-E owners to Ontario that they could get measurements for the Mach-E so they could sell one for that as well.

They seemed to be a pre-cut piece of clear plastic that you'd stick to the inside of the moonroof as an extra insulation layer.

They guy had website where you could purchase these directly from them. But I can not find that sight or this thread any longer.

Anyone know it?

The glass moonroof.

No, almost positive it was like clear plastic so still let in light but just added an extra layer that helped insulation wise. Even come winter time.
I thought you were talking about adding a moonroof that opens instead of the panoramic sunroof the car has.
Are you talking about a UV film to add to the inside or the privacy type contraption someone made that would get frosted when electrified?

Have you read up on the comfort sky coating? I live in west central ga so it gets plenty hot here. I find the roof doesa good job of uv protection, and while in the direct vicinity of the roof you can feel heat, it doesn't radiate. https://www.saint-gobain-sekurit.co...ure/enabling-sustainable-mobility/comfortskyr

Are you referring to EVglass? https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...add-on-now-available-for-cold-climates.34045/

If so, I haven't had a chance to update my experience on the original thread in a bit, but I'll do it here.

For summer use, it's no good. The nanotape fails in the heat. The panel will sag and will eventually fall. I have to keep sticking it back on and it's becoming more troublesome. The glass roof gets so hot that I stupidly burned my thumbs on more than one occasion trying to restick the panel back on.

You're likely better off mitigating some heat with the aftermarket or OEM shades unless there is some redesign of the product.

Yes, that was the product. Thanks!

How did you find it in the winter, think that is part I am more curious about. But guess isn’t good all year than not worth it.

Hi,
I worked with Paul at EVinsulate to measure my Mache E for his product.
He has tested a couple of different versions of the nanotape. Which both failed.
I now have a tinted version of the panel with a different product to hold the panel to the moonroof.
The newer version has stayed in place since installed at the beginning of summer.
I feel it has worked well in the summer. Not sure about the winter yet!
Reach out to Paul on his website and he can provide more detail.
I can send some picyures in the next couple of days.

@Northofnine, how hot has it been for you where you're at? Temps here hit at high as the mid 90s a few days and the panel was super hot to touch though I've only had the clear one.

@Gerbilicious, I also have not had a chance to test in the winter as I got mine in the spring.

We have some hot summer days hitting 90.
Days that I have left it outside in the sun, I turn on climate control for 5-10 minutes before I drive and it’s comfortable when I get in.
I am happy with the improved panel and silicone type seal.

This was my solution. Not pretty but works great:

Ford Mustang Mach-E Moonroof 3rd Party Insulation Kit mach-e-reflectix-roof-

DIY: Reflectix Roof Insulation to Reduce Heat Loss in Cold Temperatures

I only put it in during the winter. In the summer I don't have anything up because the coated glass does a good enough job blocking the solar energy.

The plastic sheet mentioned here will trap heat in the gap between the glass and the plastic in the summer due to the greenhouse effect. This will cause it the glass and plastic to get extremely hot. You may actually feel more radiant energy coming from the plastic above your head as a result, compared to bare glass alone. This is why I feel a removable solution is best.

But why?? Car is already extremely quiet, blocks solar heat amazingly well, and with little pre-condition is the perfect temp no matter the season. Makes no sense.

I don’t know where you’re located, I’m in SoCal. But I purchased a sun screen directly from Ford and I gotta tell you it has made a BIG difference! It’s a black fabric that has small holes in it that lets sunlight through also. I installed it in seconds. Paid $89 + tax.
