Hi. Can anyone shed some light on what is going on here. Here are the facts for my 2022 Mach E Premium. New BlueCruise is installed and this was my first time really using it.
  • I did a 600 mile round trip on major highways. Most of which are hands free capable
  • BlueCruise was erratic. It rarely engaged and would come on and off in places I previously never had issues. At one point it didn’t engage for two hours on rt 495 which is largely hands free.
  • Most of the time BlueCruise was on but not in hands free mode. Most of the time when I hit the lane change it would look for the lane change and then fail with an error that said “not available, no lane seen” when the lane was wide open (see video)
  • Other times lane change in non hands free mode would work but hands free would never engage even though I was on an open straight interstate that supports it.
  • Other time it would stay in the old BlueCruise mode without the triangles (meaning lane change not available) even though I was on an interstate
  • It just doesn’t seem to know what mode it wants to be in.
it was all super frustrating. I tried 100 things to replicate it and i couldn’t get consistency. Stopping charging and going again hasn’t fixed it. I also cleaned the windshield just to make sure the camera could see. No luck. Any thing I can try here?

Here is the video where it can't find an open lane. There were no cars in the lane anywhere

Here is another video where it can't find the lane, but then suddenly BC turns on randomly when it should have been on the whole time and then it can find the lane and it shifts lanes.

Yeah sometimes it refuses to engage hands free mode until you power cycle the car. Lane changes might not work either in the bugged state. I think they are using the "can't see lane lines" as a general error message which is confusing.

If you get a "cancelled" ding, hands free and lane changes will not work for the next 120 seconds. They have a stupid timer on it for some odd reason.

FYI you have to make sure you give the wheel a good tug occasionally (even when it's not asking you too) or hands-free mode won't engage.

None of the above is intuitive.

Yeah it just seems like something bigger than this. To go 2 hours with no hands free on an interstate is clearly wrong.

I also have issues with the latest BC 1.3 update (just got it last week) where it is not engaging as fast as it used to and disengages more than before. For reference I have a 2023.5 that came with BC 1.3 from the factory. I have a 40 mile stretch of highway I commute 3-4 times a week one-way, so I have a pretty go reference for the way it worked before and after the update.

Considering the number of posts describing this kind of experience, I personally think that the current released version of OTA "1.3" is not consistent from one vehicle to the next.
I say that because the earliest version (compiles) of 1.3(1.4) that was installed via FDRS as far back as January, didn't have nearly the reports of frustration. Quite the opposite, in fact.
I'm also curious just how different the current 1.3 code is vs the factory installed 1.3 on Mach-E's built more than a year ago? You didn't hear these descriptions from 2023.5 buyers that came with it equipped.

So as an update I didn the same drive yesterday from one end of Long Island to the other and BC hands free was on the entire time. Same road. Same car. Same software. Different outcome. Maybe it can see better at night vs bright sunny days? That’s the only variable.

I absolutely get better results from both Bluecruise (handsfree) and Hands-on Lane Centering at night.
More stable and quicker to lockin.

I'm guessing it's the increased contrast in road markings being analyzed by the software logic?

But do you have issues with the nanny cam claiming your not looking at the road at night?

Im fine all day….but as soon as the sun goes down I can’t get it to shut up.

Just the opposite. And probably for similar reasons. At night I switch from prescription sunglasses to prescription clear lenses.

Ironically mine is fine with the prescription lenses and pull over shades, but just hates my normal lenses.

Though about to have progressive lenses on top of my prisms…I’m sure it’ll love that.

Plus, you re-started the car. Maybe that was it?
I restarted a number of times on my road trip while charging and over night and it was worse as the week went on. Last night however it worked perfect on the same roads but had been off for 4 days at the airport. Maybe a deep sleep helps it? Who knows.

Just received BC 1.3. Cannot turn on lane centering or lane change.
