I learned that :
my friend Flow level 2 charger can only do 6.4KWh, would take 11.5 hours to top off.

When you stop at a “Electric Circuit” 50 KWh level 2, most of its charging rate is only 26KWh… why am I paying a rate of 50 ? (13.80$/h)

waiting more than 2 hours for a charge top off when battery is over 50% is ridiculous. I guess I will focus on 120KWh+ chargers even if my standard range battery tops out at 110 KWh.

Bonus question for my peers : if I got my Mach-e 1 week ago, how long will it take until ford ships me the NACS adapter?

thanks ! Glad to be onboard and exchange

Welcome to the forum! You’ll need to order your adapter from Ford based on your VIN. They’ll provide an initial estimate for delivery. Orders opened up on 2/29. They haven’t fulfilled that day’s orders yet. None of the Canada orders have shipped at all. There are other threads regarding that.

No, i believe 120Kw are level 3 chargers.
Again, I’m very beginner in all this, lots to read and learn.

Here are the basics.
For home charging a L2 charger of 40 amps or higher will give you the fastest charging, with minimal energy loss. You can get 11 KW with 48A and 9 with a 40 A.
When charging at a L3 (commercial) charger, you don’t want to go past 80%. The car slows down to L2 charging levels to protect the battery.
Look up some YouTube videos on the subject if you want to go deeper.

The MME can only pull 150KW from a L3 charger. But most places charge per KW used rather than hours. And the 150 doesn’t last all the way, it again drops the power down to protect the battery from overheating.

My Standard range LFP battery won’t go above 112KW max speed but on the plus side can be charged to 100% daily. (Unlike the extended range or GT model)
In the case of my charging to a 50Kw charger, doing 26 from start to end is a bit ridiculous, It’s half of the total capacity

Fast charge to 80%. Level 2 charge overnight while you sleep. Try to find great sit down restaurants near the slower (50kw) L3 chargers, it’s the best.

if you are sleeping or eating a great meal you really don’t care how fast your car is charging, as long as it’s at 80% by the time you wake up or finish eating and drinking.

Yes. You can charge to 100% every time. But on an L3 charger it will take an extra hour to go from 80% to 100%.

If you have not yet purchased your own level 2 EVSE (“Charger”), you should. “Topping off” or daily charging is best done at home while sleeping and will cost quite a bit less than using public charge stations. DC fast charge stations for most people should be reserved for road-tripping or just grabbing enough to get where you are going when you are short of kWhs. There are numerous threads here on choosing an EVSE for yourself. The Ford Mobile EVSE (if you have one) has been found by many of us to not be totally reliable for regular long-term use. Personally, I have two Grizzl-E Classic (Canadian made) units and have been very happy with them.

In addition, I suspect the reason your fast charge station rated at 50 kW is only delivering 26 kW is because you are already at 84% state of charge. The car is probably limiting your charge rate as it designed to do. If you were charging from 10% or 20%, more than likely you would see charge rate of 50 kW to start, but the rate would taper as you approach and exceed 80% state of charge. Do not be obsessed with “topping off” unless you can do it at home.

Welcome to the group! If this is your first EV, buckle up! Lots to learn about charging curves and why you might charge to 100% at home on your home 220V charger. There are many reasons you will choose to only charge to 80% when you are charging on the big DC Fast Chargers. That is not a law, nor will it hurt your battery significantly. If you need to charge beyond 80% at a DCFC to reach your next waypoint, then do so! Note that in addition to slowing down, it is generally considered rude to charge past 80% when the public chargers are busy.

The speed BELOW 80%, like at 30%, would have been interesting. Charging slows at 80%, and again above 90%.

Good points about the charge slowing down past 80%. right now I don’t have any charger what so ever, no level 1 or 2 but it’s being installed on the 21st of Oct so for now I will have to charge on the road at a premium.

PS : our dealership decided not to add the 650$ for Ford charger with every Mach-e. To lower total cost on purchase.

That's BS, you should try contacting them to see if you can get the free charger mailed to you and enrolled for installation. If your dealer didn't enroll you, looks like a good email might be [email protected], send your name, VIN, and dealer contact info.

If you didn't want the charger, they're supposed to give you a $2,000 credit IIRC.

If you are using a DC fast charger, you want to unplug and leave at 80% because that's when the charge rate drops to a very slow level. It is a waste of time and money to go to 100% at a DC charger.
